I'd like to ask a favor of posters here. Several times lately, someone
has mentioned their weather. I have a hard time remembering where people
live. When mentioning weather, it would be kind to those of us who aren't
as young as we used to be if you'd give a clue as to approximately where
you live. :-)

Rand McNalley used to publish a good atlas containing maps of the USA.

Way back when, Readers Digest published a good Atlas of the World. I
still consult both of these to locate whatever is in the news,
especially if I have forgotten the locations.

That might be. I even imagine the midwest when I think of Holly and
Duffy! (And I'm sure *they* never grew up in Ohio!)

Nope. They are Texans--but they don't have a Texas accent.

That is the last one for sure. My skeleton head is still there over

Since the last report, there has been very little activity at the
Eyjafjallajökull volcano. Small ash clouds are seen occasionally, but
they disappear again after some minutes.
Water accumulation in the crater is slow as the surrounding ice is no
longer in contact with hot material.
GPS measurements show slight movements towards the mountain except at
Austmannsbunga in Mýrdalsjökull, which shows movement towards the
southwest. No obvious explanation has been found for this movement.[114]

East Texas--and it was 100+ degrees F today. And humid. Incredibly

hot!

Despite that, it is beautiful--huge trees and beautiful flowers.

I usually remember everyone's location - that's one thing I *do*
remember, when I often forget all sorts of other things. Whenever I
see someone's name, I immediately imagine the location where they
are, and where their location is in relation to me. It's an unconscious
habit - I don't try to remember locations, it just pops into my mind
whenever someone posts or emails me, or when I think of that person.

However, I didn't remember your location - I always thought of you as
being in the midwest for reason. Maybe I never knew to begin with. One
thing that does happen is, if for some reason I get the wrong information
about someone's location, I will imagine them in the wrong location
whenever I think of them. Then when I find out where they really are,
I sometimes can't make the change in my head. So I might always picture
a midwestern state whenever I see your posts, even though I now know
the facts.

Joyce - SF Bay Area, in case anyone does the same thing I do

I think that was Jill did that - it's a feature of google maps.

Your atlas is probably out of date. I play some geography games, and the
map of Europe, for instance, is far different from the way it was when I was
taught geography in school.

Very accurate for me, if you zoom in and switch to satellite view my

Brits will talk about the weather all the time sinply because it is not the
same from one day to another.
We can be at a bus stop and start a conversation about the weather with
someone we never met before.
N, in Germany, does not understand this at all. When it's hot there, it's
hot for weeks, and ditto cold.
She once said "someone here in Germany is very boring if they talk about the
weather.."

She has got used to my excitement if we have a couple of sunny days, though
;-)

I am very aware of that. It is far, far different from my school days
too. I think these are from the 1970s which seem like "only yesterday.

Perhaps you picture the midwest because I grew up in northeast Ohio, and I
have mentioned that in some messages.

Mary,

What part of Northeastern Ohio? I grew up there as well.

Joani

About 65 miles south and east of Cleveland. I lived in a rural part of the
state, just outside the tiny community of Beloit. Where did you live?

MaryL
