BUT WAIT-- THERE'S MORE!
No, we cannot yet drop the curtain on the Night of the Mousies. I heard a noise awhile ago, and switched on the light-- and saw Stinky with *another* mouse in his mouth! (Oh yes, and BTW, where the hell are all these mice coming from, anyway? :P) And-- YES! He was AGAIN headed straight for what seems to be the designated drop-off-- MY SHOES. This mouse was still alive, though, and when Stinky put it down, it managed to hop out, and outrun him to behind the bookcase, and parts unknown. Stinky is now sitting in front of the bookcase, mightily willing the mousie to come out again. The adventure continues. However, it's also possible that field mice are coming in from outdoors. I grew up in a rural area, and we had this problem until we went through the entire house and stuffed steel wool in every crack and hole we could find. You must literally "scour" the house and fill in even the tiniest hole because mice can gain entry through remarkably small spaces. Don't forget to look high (such as around light fixtures in the ceiling) and low (such as openings around plumbing under sinks or in basements)! Mice can't chew through steel wool and it is flexible enough to completely fill a hole or crack, so it is superior to other "caulking" materials. MaryL |
