Default OT - How Do You Cope?

When you are really, really ill or hurt, what steps to you take to help?
Do you go the everything has to be quiet, lights darkened, like in the
bed and try to nap. Or do you go the exact opposite - wanting as many
activities around as can distract your mind from you own problems.
Which do you think is better and why do you believe that/

Now that's a question I've had to think about.

If I'm feeling ill, I sleep. I have no choice, my body just does it. It
sometimes does it if I'm feeling down.

If I have a pain somewhere I try to ignore it and just get on with things.

If I'm feeling that I have no control over things that are happening, I
sort out one of the spare bedrooms which are always a mess. It makes me
feel better to see it tidy again. Or I go into the garden and chop at the
bushes there which again are usually out of control.

When I feel the whole world hates me and is against me (I feel like this
often) I set up our home cinema, 8 foot by 4 foot 6 inches screen,
overhead projector and surround sound. Pour some wine, get something nice
to eat, turn out the lights and put on a feel good film.

Whatever I'm feeling I love to cuddle my Sootie.

That used to be my refuge also - especially when I was mad - man the house
would shine when I was really angry, I'd start cleaning from a snit all the
way up to a grand mal temper tantrum. Another coping mechanism used to be
simply making a list - a list of things that needed to be done
(prioritized), things I wanted to buy (a wish list), things I wanted to
change about myself ... endless lists. Now I can't even do that because
writing hurts my arm. Aw well, again, such is life and God is a great big
*HUGE* Iron!
