The owners were out much of the day today and apart from his waking me

work
at all day to get treats out of, but they seems to have taken my
kindly
note on board. I am more than happy about today, let's see about
tomorrow. Weekends are always the worst. The thing is that if I don't
tell them about it, they probably won't know that's he's driven me mad
for 18 months but it's always a difficult thing to approach and is
more
than likely that they will have ill-feeling about it. But at least I
told them myself without reporting them to the authorities. To give
them
a chance to sort it out between ourselves.

So far so good. how's it been since Sunday?

Judith
Hmm, not so good.

I don't know what to do Today he was left for 7 hours. Of course he will
bark, and he does. I tried the nice approach with a kind note. Not
working.

I wish we had some solutions to offer you. You've tried the note and it
didn't really work. No idea what else to tell you other than a
face-to-face confrontation. I understand why you don't want to do that
but you might have to. And it may not result in anything other than
animosity...

I really do wish I had a suggestion.

Jill

He's been good during the week as he's only left for 3 or 4 hours at time
but weekends are dreadful for him, he is left until 12.30 a.m. Poor dog. No
wonder he barks and howls.
There is an improvement on Saturdays (I think they might take him with them
now) but Sundays are still dire :-(

I do expect a dog to bark if I have one next door, but it's getting too
much. They recently had a baby and the dog seems to have gone out of the
window. I've tried very hard for the past 18 months not to bother about
it, but no the continual barking is really getting on my nerves.
It's not his fault. He's left alone too much.
I am not up to falling out with a new neighbour. but. they leave him
alone
too much and the poor lad is breaking his heart about it. They are out
all
day every day and every weekend, he sits in the window looking for them.
And barks and barks.

Tina, can you invite them all over for tea, making sure the dog doesn't see
them leave, and hopefully he will start barking. That way, you can show them
how he barks, and tell them it goes on ALL DAY LONG! Then, tell them that
you have trained dogs in the past, and give them helpful suggestions. They
don't hear the dog, so they really don't know how he barks. Poor pup.

Good idea, but no. Yes, I am quite experienced with dogs, I am a Kennel
Club approved judge. I bred and showed dogs. I've sent the note about it
and now it's up to them. The simple fact is that that they leave him alone
for too long and he breaks his heart about it.
They have a new baby and they are out showing it off all the time and leave
the JR at home, barking about "why can't I come too?"

Do you think it would help if he had a canine companion? (a less active,
"quieter" breed) If so, it might be worth making a suggestion. Of
course, *any* dog will be lonely if they leave it alone all the time.
Is there a dog park or "doggy day care" any place in the vicinity? What
about Humane Society or something similar? Would they be willing to
step in if you took a tape recording to show the incessant barking?
