Sheenah Oh NO, not heavy rain - then the mudslides will start. ;-(( As I remember, one of the stories of why California was nicknamed the Golden State came from the view of the dry grass on the foothills as seen from the Pacific. Once you get those 50+ mph Santa Anna winds blowing hot dry air from the interior, all that dry grass just explodes into runaway grass fires, especially when you have nuts starting the fires. Purrs for all in the way of the fire, and those who will be suffering from the smoke in the basins. -- Steve Touchstone, faithful servant of Sammy, Little Bit and Rocky What we need - but won't get - is a nice, gentle, soaking rain. Where are you, Steve? I am in Simi Valley, were we seem to have now escaped the worst. Yesterday I was prepared to go to my daughter's in Playa del Rey if necessary. Fortunately it wasn't, because both her cats and mine would have been very unhappy. The fire has now moved east of me, and is proceeding south through mostly unpopulated territory. Now I'm more concerned about the fires in the Inland Empire and San Diego County, where there have been so many homes destroyed and several deaths. Joy Born and raised in Bakersfield, but left there when I joined the Army in '73, and settled in SW Oklahoma when I retired in '93. Still have family in Bakersfield, Lodi, and San Diego, and make a trip out that way every Christmas. Glad to hear that it looks like the fire has bypassed you. Purrs continuing for all in its path. Our evening news is on now, and that's the top story. -- Steve Touchstone, faithful servant of Sammy, Little Bit and Rocky remove Junk for email Do you remember a little town called Pixley, about 50 miles north of Bakersfield on Highway 99? My grandparents lived there, and I spent the first year of my life there. Purrs for all the fires to be stopped. So many have suffered, and several have died because of them. -- Joy Owned and operated by Lindy and Skeeter |

Had to think about it for a minute, but as I recall it would be around Visalia, maybe halfway between Bakersfield and Fresno. Purrs for all the fires to be stopped. Used to live on Mt Laguna when I was in the fourth grade. Great place to be a kid, and at the time just a two room school. As I remember, there were just three of us in the fourth grade, and I was the only boy. -- Steve Touchstone, faithful servant of Sammy, Little Bit and Rocky remove Junk for email |

It's closer to Tulare than Visalia, but you have the right general location. Purrs for all the fires to be stopped. So many have suffered, and several have died because of them. That should help. I hope all fires are brought under control soon. Joy |
