Science Diet Oral Care food question
I just looked at the ingredients for the Science Diet Oral Care Adult
dry food and it's basically the same as the adult Chicken & Rice. The only difference that I saw was that the Oral Care has three extra ingredients: powdered cellulose, vegetable oil, and calcium carbonate. I read on a dental website that calcium carbonate is the cause of tartar but can be used as an abrasive for cleaning teeth. So does this food actually do any good? What makes it better/more effective than the chicken & rice which also helps reduce tartar build-up? |

Since cats don't masticate, dental dry food has little more dental effect than regular dry food and the same disadvantages. Your cat would probably be healthier on canned food and home dental cleaning with Q-Tips dipped in saline or a damp gauze sponge wrapped around your finger. Many people have also had success keeping their cats' teeth clean with kitty toothbrushes. Phil |
