Default Purrs for Barney, please!

Been a heckuva day! Barney (cat) was straining to pee AGAIN - he did
this back in April), so we took him to our vet's office - no vet on
duty, main vet tech tried to get him to pee - no go! We were referred to
another local vets office, but they wanted to catheter him, and keep him
for "24-48 hours", but there wouldn't be a vet on duty Sunday, so they
referred us to the closest 24-hour emergency vet which is near the
Castleton Mall in Indy (about 1.5 hours north of us)... In the meantime,
one of our nieces who lives in Mitchell (about 45 minutes south of us)
had left her car up here in Bloomington after a night out with friends,
and had no way to get it... So Jeff drives cat to Indy while I drive to
Mitchell.... aaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrgh!

Need I say that the vet in Indy cost megabucks?!?!?!?!?!?!

Back to Barney: He was blocked, but the blockage was a paste that filled
his penis. They have it unblocked and a catheter in place. Urine looked
normal, no infection, blood work & all other vitals checked were normal.
He will be left at the e-vet until Monday afternoon. His bubby, Bam-Bam
is missing him...

What a crazy day! I'm glad he got unblocked - he must feel a lot better,
physically if not emotionally. Poor Barney - purrs for him to get better
soon. What was the paste from?

And purrs for your wallet! Between the vet's and all that driving, it
must have set you back some.

Many purrs for Barney. Persia had crystals in her bladder (although she
doesn't have a penis!) so I know what that straining over the litterbox is
like. They really want to go, they just can't. And I have to assume it's
painful. Purrs for your wallet, your niece, and for you too, of course!

Purrs for Barney and for you.
I know how you feel.
I lost track of how many times I rushed Rusty (RB) to the
emergency vet clinic at night because of blockages. The clinic
charged
a bundle. But despite that, Rusty lived to a ripe old age of 16.
He didn't have any more problem with blockage in his later years.

Default Update on Barney (was Purrs for Barney, please!)

Hubby called the e-vets a bit ago, Barney is doing good - eating,
drinking, and putting out urine (they didn't mention any abnormalities
in it, so I'm ASSuming it's normal).... Miss the little bugger, and I'm
sure he missed us, too.

That's good news! I guess he might have to go on a special diet, that
is, if he's not already on one.

Barney gets to come home today! Vet in Indy just called, and said he is
looking good, and we can come get him at any time!

Is there any possibility that clumping litter (or litter generally)
could cause a blockage? We are purring for Barney's continued
wellbeing. MLB

That's great news.
Is Barney eating dry or canned food?
After staying at the emergency vet clinic for a weekend
for an urinary blockage, Rusty's (RB)
vet switched him to prescription canned food and he didn't
have any major blockage since then. Winnie
