I have so appreciated the support of people in this newsgroup. It really has
meant a lot to me during this difficult time - and just want to say that
publicly.

Magnus

I'm very sorry about Willi's results, Magnus. I was hoping for the best as
were you,
of course. It's such a drag that it's not only cancer but a rare form. I'm
also sorry that it is all happening prior to your trip. Is your vet the one
doing the surgery? Is he experienced in these types of procedures? I wonder
if you should get some sort of consult with a veterinary oncologist or at a vet
school. I'm not meaning to second guess your vet or your decision but perhaps
there are alternatives? Although I understand that right before you're
getting ready to leave the country is not a good time to explore new vets. I'm
very sorry and I hope it all works out for Willi and that you are able to have
a pleasant trip in spite of this. I'll be thinking good thoughts for the
little cute guy.

The report today on Willi's biopsy was not good. ...

I'm so sad to hear that. If there is a veterinary university within your
reach, I suggest contacting them about Willi's diagnosis and surgery. You
could schedule an appointment for when you return from your trip. This is a
difficult time for both you and Willi. My heart goes out to you both.
Hugs,
Annie

Well, after talking to several friends and hearing from people in this group I
have decided to seek a 2nd opinion on Willi. There is vet hospital that has
vets skilled in oncology that I have received a good recommendation on about 30
minutes from where I live. I was able to get in tomorrow for a 9:45am
appointment and will pick up Willi's charts and tests from his current vet on
the way there and see what this vet says.

The nearest vet school is about 3 hours from me I am told.

Good decision. The specialist near you probably communicates with the vet
school, so you will have the advantage of that resource, even though it is
so far from your home. I hope you get some information or treatment that
can improve Willi's chances. No matter what, you will feel more confident in
the choices you have to make.
Take care,
Annie

Yes. I am comforted already some. Even if the outcome remains the same, I just
want to ensure I do all I can for Willi and certainly knowing I seeked a 2nd
opinion I think is something I need to do and would regret, if I did not.
