Things are still looking up
Seems to be going quite well for Vino so far. This morning he ate some
of an Iams pouch. I've found that microwaving the food does not help him at all, he likes it cold. I guess it's what he's used to, being an only cat, most of his food comes straight from the fridge. We went for a walk on the beach today and then to some wineries, so were out for 4 hours. When we got home, Vino ate lots more from his Iams pouch and also had his acid urine pill and antibiotic paste with no problems. All in all, he has eaten about 3/4 of an Iams pouch today. I think that is really good. We can really tell that he has lost weight, can feel his spine all along his back :-( I guess it's good that he had some extra padding to begin with. Every day he is eating more. So since he is eating more and not puking anymore, and is still getting his antibiotic and acid urine meds, the only variants are that he's no longer getting his anti-nausea injections and he's at home. I really think he reacted badly to the anti-nausea meds. I will remember this for future reference. Of course being home is also helping a lot. This morning he was cussing us out for ages for not letting him outside. He really summoned a lot of energy for that... Finally Dennis let him out and they settled in together and read the newspaper. Vino is particularly interested in the local council's proposal to raise the rates by 7%. He does not approve. I've never met him but I feel fond of him for some reason. Stress is a very strange thing. I had it once, and it put me off my food (that's hard to do!) and I lost 42lbs in weight. I was like a skeleton. My manager called me in to her office to draw my attention to it, as if I didn't know ;-) "Look at your poor thin legs.." My counsellor (who helped me through it) told me that stress can interfere with the body's ability to get proper nutrients from food - apart from the fact that adrenalin is raging out of control too. Being back at home should sort the lad out now his medical problems have been dealt with. Bless his little cotton socks, give him a scritch from me. Being in hospital is the pits, more so if you don't understand why you are there. Tweed |

I worry when they get sick, I cry when they die, I'm happy when they heal. I usually have a photo of someone's cat on my computer's desktop (they rotate), and I really feel as though I know many of these wonderful critters. Does this mean I'm lacking a life? Or just that I'm a slightly nutty catslave extraordinaire? Joyce |
