Lizard tastes better than Iams
I've been wondering why Vino has been such a food hound lately. Finally
clued in that he wasn't eating his dry food at all. I put him in front of the bowl and tried to get him to eat, but he stiff-armed the bowl and backed away from it. I dumped it and tried another flavour. He devoured it! So the problem is that he's sick of the Iams Original flavour. That really sucks because we have one of those big huge gigantic bags of it! And we bring this food from Canada, aaargh! I guess I'll try to alternate bowls of the Original with bowls of the hairball stuff (which I can sometimes find here in Thailand). Hopefully after a bit of a layoff from the Original, he'll go back to it. So this evening, he stalked down a lizard. Dennis kept trying to distract him, it worked at first but then he caught on to Dennis' trickery and gave him a dirty look before ignoring him. He ended up precariously balancing on the back of a chair and leaping to the top of a shelf, from which he attacked the lizard and caught it. He jumped down from the shelf and proceeded to devour the lizard, much to mine and Dennis' dismay. We cannot believe that our spoiled rotten cat would prefer lizard over imported Iams!!! -- Britta (well, ok, I admit I'd rather have him eat his prey than to leave it, but geeez! No kitty kisses for us tonight.) Sandpaper kisses, a cuddle and a purr. I have an alarm clock that's covered in fur! You think Iams does lizard flavour? about the dry food, you suppose it could have gotten dry? well, that sounded clever ... I mean, even dry food does have some moisture when it's fresh, but if it's been out in the air for some time it will get really dry and stop smelling. have you tried to moisten it a bit to bring out the flavour/smell? scritches to Vino! -- :: lewe ------------------------------------------------------------- lewemi at yahoo dot se || cat pics: photos.yahoo.com/lewemi |

Or gotten too moist from humid air - maybe even rotten. I learned a long time ago that buying a bag that weighed much more than the total weight of the cats that were to eat it resulted in hungry cats and wasted food - no more than two weeks worth seems about right. Storing it in sealable plastic buckets helps, but with about a dozen cats, a twenty pound bag lasts only a week or so. When I had four cats, I bought 7-8 pound bags, and sometimes I thought the cats were getting less willing to eat it, then they caught up when I opened a new bag. I normally rotate flavors, so I'm not completely sure whether they got tired of the same old same old or whether the last of the bag was going bad. I know they never like the dusty stuff from the bottom of the bag. On the current schedule of a new bag every ten days or so, the consumption is pretty normal right to the last, which they generally aren't too keen about, possibly because of the dust. Right now there is a good bit of self feeding going on - there are still thousands of frogs around and mice have started moving back into some of the hunted out areas (based on the leavings found in the living room). Hmmm, well, I have a big airtight plastic bin that it's in, to keep the ants out and to keep it fresh. I'll try to add some water next time if he still won't eat it. I'd hate to waste a big bag of food like that. It seems that lizard doesn't agree with him too well either though. This morning I came downstairs and there was a puddle of puke in the hallway :-( -- Britta Sandpaper kisses, a cuddle and a purr. I have an alarm clock that's covered in fur!
