Claw colors?
"Sherry" wrote "Pat" wrote: I was trimming everyone's claws tonight and noticed that the part of the claw that is supposed to be pink is black on most of Aby's claws. Does it mean he has a health problem of some kind? Gosh, Pat, that's a new one on me, I've never heard of that. I do know that is indicative of circulatory problems in humans, or could also be a nail fungus. Wonder if it's just an age-related thing? I googled a bit, but didn't really come up with anything. A cat's claw isn't like a toenail, in that the part that grows out of the pad is bonded firm with bone. Hope it turns out to be nothing! Do you think it's a sudden onset thing or maybe it's been that way a while and you just hadn't noticed it? Yoda's claws are always dirty. Always. The other cats keep theirs very clean. But I did a claw check for you, and everyone has pink claws. Thanks, Sherry. I don't do claws that often and when I do it I'm mainly just focused on getting all 9 kitties done in the shortest possible time so I never looked closely at any part of the claw except the tips. But tonight for some reason I did - on Abelard. Then I checked all the others and only one (Tommy) had any darkness in the claws, and that was only in a few claws. I'm worried about this.... |

Hmmmm, interesting, and I only have 4 to clip, and I've never noticed any color but white on any of their nails, which become like needles once in a month, and they get caught in the carpets, etc. Hey, give a TED a call, you don't have to give your name, and ask somebody. If he OK otherwise? Keep an eye on him, and like I said, call a TED and inquire. How often do you clip their nails? Do you wear a chainmail outfit like I do? I do when I clip Pipps, 5th fom the left, sitting by the shoe (bottom sig) Purrs Kyla The Four Masters of U http://home.comcast.net/~dutch.waterman/site/ Left to right, Mosey, Sqweex, Pookie, Pipps, Mutt (RB) .. |

I don't think this is unusual, although I don't know about Abys specifically. My first cat (long-haired domestic, definite Persian mix) had black claws. He was healthy and lived a long life--almost 20 years. My only concern would be if the claws were previously pink but later turned black. In that case, I would see a vet. MaryL |

MaryL Weebles and baby-twin sister, Betty, are both about 98.999~% black, but they have a mix each of black claws and 'clear' claws.... Betty's littermate, Bam-bam, whom is about 80% white, has all clear claws. Ping, the meezer, has clear claws. All clear claws I have seen have had pink centers - the quick. I have noticed that there have been times when it's seemed dark, but that has been the instance of dirt (egads - dirt!!!!) imbedded in the underside of the claw. -- ^..^ This is Kitty.
