New Fur Baby
We have been searching the newspapers and online for some time now to find
another fur child to fill out our family. The last of our poodles died at seventeen years of age a few months ago. She went to join her twin sister who died last year. We still have the two cats. Jake the consummate Siamese gentleman, and Molly the independent formerly feral Calico. But our house is empty without a dog. Yesterday we found and chose our newest. She is a four week old Border Collie girl. Her face and ears are while, but there is a black patch over one eye and black on her body. Also white feet and legs. A lot of the white should dapple with gray and she gets older. She was bred by a woman that trains stock dogs. I'll have pictures in a few days that I can post. It never even occurred to me to take a camera along yesterday. Now we have to come up with a good call name for her. Something Scottish and distinctive that contrasts well with Jake and Molly. (I wish we hadn't wasted the name Molly on the cat. She has never once responded to it) Funny how fast I went from yesterday being very undecided. I liked several pups we saw but they were all being sleepy little blobs and I had now real preference for any one out of five girls I liked. This morning I woke Charlie up to make him call to make sure they didn't sell MY puppy out from under me. We will likely pick her up on my birthday, December 6th. St. Nicholas Day. Jo |

Jo Congratulations on the new addition. I think Fiona would go well with Molly and it's Scottish. Jo I think it's wonderful you're getting a d-pet, however, if she's now 4 weeks old, and you're picking her up on 12/06, she will only be 6 weeks old!! Pups need to be with their mom longer than that, just like kittens do. I know you're anxious, but... What's the rush? |

Pups need to be with their mom longer than that, just like kittens do. I know you're anxious, but... What's the rush? The breeder lets them go at six weeks. Once they are weaned and have their first shots. Since they are outdoor dogs now, the sooner we get her into the house so we can housebreak her the easier it will be. I've hand raised pups from birth so she will get the right care, and both of us are retired and have plenty of time to spend with her. Jo |
