Default scouty silver and stranger hate each other!

so far this is an utter disaster and i"m regretting ever bringing
stranger upstairs (SCUSE WEIRD TPYING... Stranger sat on the computer
keyboard and did something weird to it... )

Anyway, Scouty and Silver are FURIOUS about having another cat in the
house, even shut in a carrier in the craftroom... Silver disappeared
and refused to come out of hiding even for tunafish. I was terrified
that she'd got out of the apartment and I was about to phone John in
tears, when I noticed fur on the chair cushion - she was hiding out
under the table. Scouty's been following me round the apartment with
an alarmed look on her face...
But the wierdest and scariest thing is that since Silver came out of
hiding a few minutes ago, she and Scout are hissing, growling and
FIGHTING!
I think I have to get rid of the kitten asap and I'm thinking of
taking it back out to where I found it and letting it go in case it
really does belong to someone... this whole thing is breaking my heart

I've heard good things about those Feliway diffusers as a way to calm things
down. No idea, really, since Persia wouldn't tolerate another cat and I'm
not about to try to convince her otherwise. Good luck!

Rita also hates all other cats, but that didn't stop me from taking in my
sister's cat when she needed a sitter, or taking in my friend's two
cats when she needed it, OR from taking in Stormy when he called from
outside.

Don't worry about your two. They'll get over it. Do what you need to
do to help the new one. Give the others lots of treats and as much
extra lovings as they'll tolerate. They'll be FINE, really!!
Meanwhile, call every pet rescue outfit in your area and see if they
have a foster home available, or even try to find a home for the new
one yourself. It may take awhile, but they'll forgive you later.
Rita did.

Do you have any Feliway or catnip handy to use on Silver and Scout? They
will calm down in a while. Perhaps you could shut them in separate rooms
(if you have the space). Putting the kitten out will probably cause it's
death. Do you have a neighbor or friend who could help you out?Purrs that
this will work out for all concerned. MLB

Unfortunately we live in a two bedroom apartment and Stranger is in
one of the rooms in the carrier, so I can't seperate Scout and Silver
because there aren't any doors to close! Scout and Silver don't take
very well to catnip - it actually makes them aggressive. I guess I
just have to ride this out... I think what's really going on is
Silver's in a royal snit and saying EVERYONE LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!!! And
Scouty doesn't understand it... she keep walking up to Silver and
looking at her and then Silver hisspits.

I'll second what others have said - give it a little time. It's perfectly
normal for established cats to act weird when another cat is introduced.
The established cats feel like they have to re-establish the "pecking
order", and it shouldn't last too long.

Feliway diffusers and Rescue Remedy have worked wonders for me.

Meanwhile, I'll get the furkids here cranked up to send massive "everybody
calm down" purrs out to your crew.

ATM Stranger is the happiest - I put him? in the carrier with a soft
cloth to sit on, and put the food and water bowls in the front. He's
just small enough to have room for him and them... he meyowled for
about fifteen minutes but now he's resigned to it and I can hear him
eating

Sending you calming purrs. Please don't just re-dump the kitten.
S/he deserves a chance. I know you don't want your babies upset, but
I'm betting they'll calm down pretty shortly. I'm to the point where,
when I bring a stray into the Kitty Rescue Room, most of the other
cats just yawn. Only Merlyn still seems to think she needs to throw a
hissy-fit because there's another cat in here. But that's Merlyn's
personality -- lol.

Give it time, do the fliers, call the shelters, and I'll be praying to
Bast a good solution can be found for this lost kitten.

Are you anywhere near Chicago? I can't stop thinking about that cat - I
really want him.

Hey, if she doesn't find the cat's real people, maybe it could be
arranged, even if you're not close? We've had some long-distance cat
transfers before on this newsgroup. (Potjie and Harri Roadcat come
to mind immediately.)
