I'm sorry, I know I'm the biggest offender. I'll try to make myself
more scarce from now on so others can enjoy the group and not be forced
to go to FaceBook. No hard feelings, I know where you're coming from.

Don't you damn well do that. Do you hear? I know the others on this gourp
or even group will agree with me. Offender indeed!!!!

Your "rotting in the ground" descriptive was too much for me. It just
made me think of all the
cats I have "rotting in the ground". My next thought -- probably since
my mother's 80th
birthday would have been today -- about *her* "rotting in the ground."
So, no thanks. Call me selfish, but I will not read another post which
is that graphic.

The problem with that is that you don't know how graphic it's going to
be until you've already read it. Maybe we need a "graphic description
warning"? That seems fair to me. What do you think, CN?

Well, Mike, some of us have always particularly treasured this group
because it DOES provide an outlet for discussing our off-topic concerns,
too! (Other than political rants, which one can find on all
newsgroups.) Usually the thread-title gives you a clue (even if it
isn't marked "OT"). If a topic doesn't interest you, or you don't care
to comment, it's easy enough to simply skip the thread. A lot of our
members seem to have serious health issues, and/or be fighting clinical
depression. (Which is a lot more serious than just "feeling blue" - be
grateful if you've never encountered it.) I think many of us live
alone, so really have no one else to confide in. Why not cut them a
little slack?

"Biggest offender"? Not really - although you seem to have the kind of
issues most in need of sharing! I may not often respond, but it's not
for lack of empathy - I just don't always know what I can say to make it
better.

I'm really sorry to hear you say that. It's not all about you. There
have been posts about
everything from bedtime stories to movies to books to riots to air
conditioning to
unclaimed property and everything else in between. And for the most
part, I've enjoyed
them all and participated in them.
However, and remember, you have my deepest sympathy for the illness
you're struggling with--
but the graphic descriptions in your last post turned me quite off. I
agree that, if venting makes
you feel better, you should by all means do it.
However again, I come to this group for entertainment and to get my
mind off *my* problems.

It really doesn't matter any more, I was wrong to post that - knew that
when I did it but didn't have the self-restraint to not hit the send
key. I'm going to wean off of the newsgroup as much as I can so I won't
be even tempted to do that again. I'll still be around whenever I have
a cat story or pictures to share - I just put some on FB and am going to
add them to my web site to post here.

I *so* agree with you, Evelyn.
Off topic posts were usually discouraged on newsgroups because people were
on dial up (I was at first and it cost me 5p/minute) but I only used to
collect the headers and read everything offline.
With the advent of broadband/dsl this is not such an issue and as most posts
are clearly marked OT, they needn't be read at all whatever service you are
on.
Thread drift is slightly different, this will often happen and if I find it
drifting off into a direction I'm not interested in I am able to "ignore
conversation" and it does not show up as unread.
I would not want to discourage any member from seeking emotional support
here, whether for health issues, serious family worries or anything else.
Nor posting useful things like the USA thing about unclaimed money (does not
apply to me in UK, I wish we had something like that!)

I am on another group where the posters have a main interest, but there are
often OT posts about personal circumstances and all the members on there are
very kind and tolerant about this. I think I've seen one objection in
years and he was told to ignore posts that had OT in the title.

FFS, Lori. *One* person is objecting to OT posts (not necessarily yours)
and does that really matter? Your situation is very difficult and you've
been told by most it's quite OK to vent, but with a graphic warning if
necessary.

You have forgotten what I emailed you last week already.
Remember what I said.
Also remember "this, too, will pass.."

Sherry asked:

What about Amber and Tiger? Doesn't
Amber have a birthday soon? Hope she
is doing well, and Tiger too.

Amber has a birthday Sept 14th. She is doing very well. She gets
around better since I added Cosequin to the food. I also have step
stools in several places to help her get "up" (she doesn't jump very
well). Tiger is his usual self.

Don't you dare! This is your home as much as anyone else's Lori...
please treat it like one. (hugs)
