Pooping Outside the Box?
This has been a problem with Tiger from day one. I think it's just a
"cling-on" problem since he is long haired. I have three litter boxes that are kept scooped. Tiger is not arthritic. Most of his poops are in the box but he frequently drops a small piece outside the box. I just live with it.. ---MIKE--- In the White Mountains of New Hampshire (44 15' N - Elevation 1580') |

"Cling-ons" are very common, especially with long haired cats. I was describing an issue where Amber eventually would always squat on the carpet--it was not cling-ons. It happened only when she became elderly, and I am convinced that it became painful for her to dig in the litter. I hope that will not become a problem for Jill, but I described it so that she could look for similar signs. Cats that have been declawed frequently develop arthritis at a younger age and often display inappropriate litter box behavior. Just like Persia, Amber was always fastidious about using the litter box until she began to develop problems with using her paws for digging. MaryL |

Of course I don't know how old she is. Persia's litter box is very clean and she's got kitty steps (which I try not to trip over!). But someone front de-clawed her so that very well may be a a factor. She's not exhibiting any other odd behaviour so I wasn't really sure where this might be coming from. Jill |
