Default Cat-Boy and the Air Conditioner

Got hot here today, 33 degrees. First day I had to turn on the air
conditioners.

The one in the computer room sits in a window. The window has a stool
in front of it that I put there so Cat-Boy can look out and survey the
yard. He's very diligent about making sure no birds, mice, squirrels,
or other cats come into his yard.

Normally he comes into the computer room about once every couple of
hours to get his tummy rubbed and some attention from his papa. Then
he goes back out to take care of important cat business.

This afternoon about 3 pm he came in as usual. As he sat in my lap he
kept staring at the air conditioner, which he has never heard running
before. (I got him from the shelter last November.) After the usual
period of tummy rubbing he jumped down. I expected him to go back out,
but this time he went straight over to the window.

After a couple of minutes staring up at the air conditioner he jumped
up on his stool. Cautiously he extended a paw toward the air
conditioner, as if to investigate. He sniffed all over it, as though
he was curious where the air was coming from. Then he placed his front
feet up on top of it as he normally does to look out the window. As he
did the air blowing out of the vents ruffled the underside of his long
Maine Coon coat. He closed his eyes as he does when I scratch an
especially itchy spot. He sat there in ecstasy as the cold air blew
over him.

After a few minutes he jumped down and went out of the room. But
barely a quarter hour later he was back. He went straight to the
stool, jumped up and placed his feet on the top of the air conditioner
so the air would blow over his tummy. Again, he stayed there in sheer
joy for several minutes, then jumped down and left again.

He repeated this performance every fifteen minutes or so all
afternoon.

And here I was worrying about him suffering from the heat this summer
with that heavy coat of his.
