Actually, they don't *have* to be wrapped in anything... and I
personally prefer those wrapped in banana leaves.


Banana leaves are a tad hard to come by in Tennessee

I've also seen them frozen at asian markets, that might be a source for
you. Honestly, there's nothing like a oaxacan tamal, wrapped in banana
leaf and stuffed with black mole. YUM!!!

I had some excellent ones in Ensenada, Baja Ca. at a health food place. They
were filled with "wheat-meat" and vegies.

The only other tamales I've had came out of a jar from a supermarket, and
they weren't half bad, but I don't think they're available anymore. Haven't
seen them for ages. Can't get to Mexico either. That's why I need a recipe.

I've got lots of good ideas now. Thanks, all!
