Waffles
I thought Waffles’ behavior was due to the heat until yesterday.
However, yesterday morning I couldn’t find him - until I went in to get my shower. That’s where he was. I had to move him out. As soon as I finished my shower, he went back in that bathroom and laid up against the side of the shower. As soon as it dried, he went back in. I called & was able to get an appointment with the vet for that afternoon. I had to leave him because she wanted a urine sample & his bladder was “very small”. She said his gums are pale and he’s somewhat dehydrated. He’s also lost about three pounds, although who knows over how long a period, since he hasn’t been there for a few years. She took blood tests, clipped his nails & gave him fluids. They said they’d call me once they get a urine sample & I can bring him home. I didn’t have any trouble at all getting him into the cat carrier. He’s very lethargic. One of the things that startled me was that they gave him a “senior wellness exam” and “senior blood panel”. I mentioned that he’s only 7 or 8, but the vet tech said they consider cats senior at 6! They didn’t call until almost 7:30. He was already in the carrier when I got there. I figured he’d head right for the shower when I got him home, so I put some water in there. Then I went and sat down in the living room to watch TV. To my surprise, just a couple minutes later he came and jumped on my lap. He stayed there for a long time and got very affectionate. Finally he got down, but he came back up later. This morning the doctor called with the results of his lab tests. His calcium is 14.1. Normal is 8.6-10.5. She said the most likely causes would be kidney failure or cancer. The kidneys are working. She had me bring him in this morning and leave him for a lot more tests. I'm to go back at 5:00. Depending on how he's doing, I may be able to bring him home then. It doesn’t look good.
