Today I got my neck collar off. I've had it on since Feb 23 24/7. I was
longing to get it off so I could sleep properly.
The good news is that my neck fractures have healed
My T4 fracture in the upper spine is doing |Ok but has a way to go yet.
The bad news is that since I had my collar off my neck hurts like crazy. I
can feel the ironwork now if I touch the back of my neck.
And the haircut..the nurses said the shaving would be on trend

I always feel terrible for the dogs and cats that have to wear those
plastic collars so I also feel terrible for you having to wear stuff.
But at least you know that it's in your best interest. I think the
cats/dogs must wonder why we're punishing them.

Persia had to wear one of those collars when it was determined she was
allergic to the medication for hyperthyroidism. The poor girl was
chewing the fur off her paws. She didn't understand why she was so
itchy or why she had to wear that collar until a viable solution was found.

Tweed, I'm glad you're out of the neck brace. Just do what you have to
do to get back to normal, slowly. Give Boyfie some scritches for me.

I had to wear one of these for 10 weeks
http://www.aspenmp.com/index.php/pro...r-spine/vista/
and I was very happy to have it removed last week. It amuses me that the
model is smiling. But now it is off my neck hurts a lot, maybe it got used
to the support or maybe it's just usual for a broken neck to be painful for
ages.
I agree about the plastic collars that are fitted to dogs and cats because
they have no idea why it's good for them. After Boyfie's accident, he
didn't have a neck collar fitted although he was stitched in the side and
right up his tummy where they'd had to flush him out against infection. I
thought he would have one. He never tried to interfere with his stitches at
all. Because he is such a Good Boy ;-)
Actually, he is always a good boy apart from jumping on my kitchen worktops
in search of food - but he only does it when he knows I'm watching the telly
in the next room. He jumps down immediately if he hears me get up so
somehow he seems to know he shouldn't do that - although I've never said
anything to him about it. It must feel a bit naughty perhaps, but how he
knows that concept I don't know.
Have to go now, he is meowimg because I am half an hour late wth his 10 pm
sprinkles (tablespoon of dry because he loves it)

I'm trying to do more every day.

I will. The poor lad has endured many months in total, alone in the house
being fed by strangers over the last few years when I've been in hospital
but he always waits patiently for me to come home.
He never does that "I'm not speaking to you because you've been away" thing
that I've heard some cats do. turning their back to make it clear.
No, he is always overjoyed to see me and we have the "I must be on your lap
all the time" thing for weeks.
Which is fine with me because I missed him too.

I can tell just to look at it that it's uncomfortable. Interestingly,
today when I took Waffles to the vet, I saw a dog with a similar collar.
I asked about it, and the owner said it was for the same purpose as
the cone - to keep him from licking. I think it keeps him from bending
his neck enough to do so.
