OT - I'm *REALLY* Angry Now
I had a closer look at the thing, and it's not even a new frame - it's all
scratched and the glass is FILTHY! Hugs, CatNipped "CatNipped" wrote in message ... I don't know if I wrote about this here but... I've been webmaster for Gulf Coast Mensa for the last 10 years. I've won 20 "National Mensa" awards for the work I did on it (all done by hand, over thousands of hours, of web Architecture (applications on the site were database-driven). Someone on the "Board of Directors" decided they wanted a "hipper", more "with it" site that uses all the new social software. I tried to tell them that they were opening themselves up to a HUGE security breach, but they wouldn't listen, they wanted on of the little cookie cutter like sites that other group (who didn't have anybody who "knows" web architecture like I do). They asked for volunteers for the job of webmaster, and one little techie-noids on the board jumped all over that. She outright STOLE an entire site from North Texas Mensa - here, look at the two: http://www.gcmensa.org/ http://northtexasmensa.org/ntm/index.php She still has the NTM webmasters name still on pages of the site (like the "MoQuotes). I had no idea this was going on. I learned that I had been "let go" when I read about it in the paper newsletter that goes to members. I was, understandable, angry at the way this was done (my feelings were very hurt). I told them that this was a really crappy way to treat someone who had dedicated so much time and devotion to the site for ten years (every 6 months or so the Board gives out "Service Awards" to different people who did this or that, but I never once got one - I didn't mind or complain, I was a 'stay-at-home" member, disliking the meetings and parties). I wrote a note in one of the group's email distribution list and I guess quite a few people agreed with me that this was a disgraceful way to treat me. Then, just a few moments ago I opened up a package from the new webmaster, MaDiana. It was a "service award" worded: "Certificate of Eternal Gratitude Presented to Lori Crews for outstanding dedication, service and commitment as Gulf Coast Mensa Web Master by Arturo Huerta ~ LocSec and the Gulf Coast Mensa Board of Directors Thursday, January 7, 2010 ~ Houston, Texas Along with this they sent a $25 Visa Gift Card. You can look at the card and tell it's been hanging around in someone's pocket since Christmas and someone just said, "here toss this in too". What do you think, should I send the whole package back, or keep it for a while (like DH suggested) to decided the best way to react to this blatant insult? -- Hugs, CatNipped See all my masters at: http://www.PossiblePlaces.com/CatNipped/ |

But a gift card is a gift card. (probably, bet its been used). Buy nip. They are so not worth it. Sometimes we have to suck it up and put up with that kind of **** from family and hope they grow up. Acquaintances, no way. You have confirmed my main reason for avoiding MENSA. I don't like registering guns. Why on earth would we want to register brains. Y'all must have just met up with the wrong folks. My experience has been that the high IQ score is the ONLY thing members have in common and that interests, hobbies and specialties run the same gamut as everyone else. While I have met some neurotic members (and maybe a psychotic member - grin), most have been no more strange or difficult than the non-members I know. As for 'socially inept', Mensa is a social group in which I am perfectly 'ept' (grin). If I am inept in other social circles, it is because I don't like to play many of the so-called social games... Anyway, I am sorry to hear that anyone has had an unsatisfying experience with Mensa, as I've never had a problem. Maybe our expectations are just different. Hugs and Purrs, Mark -- Proof of Sanity Forged Upon Request Mark, I think it depends on the group. When I first joined, in New Orleans, I found the people there to be horrid egotistical boobs. Then I came to Houston and after a while decided to go to one of the meetings. The people where very friendly, crazy (like me), and fun! I immediately rejoined and eventually became webmaster. Unfortunately, over the years, the group has changed, a lot of the membership "split and quit" when a large "scandal" (such as this one) happened. I don't want that to happen, I just want them to leave me alone and I'll quietly go away (and not renew), AFTER I've decided what to do about this insult - and insult was exactly what it was, THAT couldn't have been made any clearer. i think part of the issue for dh was the locality of this particular group.
it was in close proximinity to a university, he was in his mid 20's and had been in real life for several years before returning to college, most of those at the meeting were barely old enough to vote and seemed intent on impressing him, i don't think this is all groups just the one he visited, Lee "Mark Edwards" wrote in message m... It certainly was an insult on many levels, which ****es *me* off because they did it to someone I consider a dear friend - you. While I have met some neurotic members (and maybe a psychotic member - grin), most have been no more strange or difficult than the non-members I know. I'm sure that's true. That's true in almost any group of people. (OK, if your sample group was "people in psychiatric hospitals" you'd get a somewhat skewed result. ) As for 'socially inept', Mensa is a social group in which I am perfectly 'ept' (grin). If I am inept in other social circles, it is because I don't like to play many of the so-called social games... Don't assume that because you don't understand how some people relate to each other that they're playing games. One person's "games" is another's natural form of social interaction. Most of us are most "ept" when we're with people who share not only similar interests, but similar ways of talking to each other. In some groups, I'm very friendly and extroverted, I have plenty to say and lots of people to say it to, and everyone I meet is just fascinating. They "get" me, and I get them. But in others, I hang out on the edges, hoping I can leave soon. I suspect the same is true for most people. Joyce -- After a cruel childhood, one must reinvent oneself.
