I'm so excited. I found a new hobby for you. Check this out:

http://www.wikihow.com/Crochet-a-Cat-Hat

I know your owners will be pleased to get these, just as mine would be.
I already emailed the web site to Rob's mom in hopes that she'll make me
some hats for the kitties.

Pam S who is in a totally strange mood tonight

Yes! this was on CuteOverload, and I did think of Lori! What do you
think of that shade of pink?

ICK!!!! But I don't like pink anyway. My daughter gets it from somewhere,
and I guess it's me. Now I have to see if I have an H sized crochet hook
around here somewhere. . .

ROTFLMAO! I'm going to have to learn how to crochet just for that!
The owner's will *NOT* be pleased! ;

Hugs,

Here are instructions on how to crochet:

http://www.learntoknit.com/instructions_cr.php3

http://crochet.about.com/od/learnbasics/ss/stchain.htm
On this one, click Step 2, Step 3 etc. - it's *really* step by
step...

Very cool links - *thanks*. I've always like knitting (even though I
only know how to knit and purl big squares) because it was something
I could do with needles that didn't involve bleeding. I'd really
like to learn how to actually make something!

Those Trauma Teddies are pretty much a just a square- and you don't even
need to know how to purl :-)

Effectively they are...knit a square, then cast on some more on each side of
square, knit a bigger square for a bit, then cast off back down to the
original square size, knit a bit more.

Dead easy.

I have made queen sized bed throw blankets out of the 'granny square'
crochet pattern. I found it very soothing to do after Joel's Mum had died. I
made it out of her wool.

I don't know what "cast on some more" means - I've never even learned with
to do with the rat's tail end where you start knitting from. Seriously,
though, this discussion has really gotten me interested in learning more
about knitting and crocheting.

'Cast on some more' simply means starting more stitches, in other words, you
do it just like how you start the first row, by putting the loops on the
needles.

There's many many 'how to knit' web pages out there, and even some YouTube
videos to show you. I knit in the English style, which is probably how
Americans mainly knit too. However I've met both Greek and Polish women who
hold their needles and yarn very differently and seem to do it 'backwards'
to me. Both get the same result in the end, but it was like trying to
translate a different language,a nd we couldn't tell each other how to do
the patterns we were following.

There's also a number of ways to cast on. Once again, I do it theEnglish
way, but i"ve seen Italian women do it with finger & thumb and cast on such
that the little tail is on the left when the casting on has finsihed, but
mine is always on the right side.

Go with what you know, really.

Oh, and craft groups *love* helping people to knit. Your first project is
traditionally a scarf :-)

I love yard sales where I can buy a big bag of yarn for a buck. The last
week I spent in the hospital with my husband, I was on auto pilot making
granny squares. The nurses found it interesting. It was something to do
with my hands. I gave them all to a friend who put them together for a
couch throw. She loves it so guess it was good for me and good for her. I
don't mind making them, I hate putting them together.

I agree, my girls hated the ones I made with the chin straps to hold them
on. Couldn't even get a picture they were out of them so quick.

I guess we do it the Greek and Polish way here in Finland, because it
always looks so funny to me when I see English women knit. They have one
needle under their arm, ferkrissake! How can you knit that way?? :P

Maybe I do it the Finnish way, then! Because the 'hold one needle under the
arm' method was what I thought was the Greek & Polish way. LOL

My needles also point up, the Greek/Polish way was to point the needles
down. It looked so awkward to me, but the Greek woman who used to work here
with us could knit a jumper (sweater) in just a few days. it would take me
weeks!
