Tea for Two
Even when the contents are the same (i.e. H20) my cat would far rather
drink out of my glass than her bowl. I don't encourage the practice, but it's hard to combat when, for example, when she is sipping from your nightstand glass of water and you are sleeping. Do you suppose there is any health risk in this? (For me, that is.) Bill King |

Yes there sure is. It turns you into a cat slave and allows them to add
things to your water to be able to train you better ;-) If it bothers you that much use bottle water instead or at least use something with a lid and straw Now the risk you do take is that the furball over turns your water glass 1 you will be rudely awoken by a splash of over turned water and the mad dash the furball does when it gets soaked which could be across you and your nether regions ;-) 2 if the water drips into a electric appliance (BAD) wrote in message ups.com... Bill King jessie prefers to drink water out of tall pint glasses (tall straight beer glasses that you get in pubs, for those of a transatlantic persuasion) so I leave one full of fresh water on the floor of my room for her. mayeb she prefers it because it means she does nto have to bend down too much to have a drink and the water level is high, not sure. basically in this house, if you are going to leave glasses of water or half eaten bowls of cereal and milk ion the floor then you are asking to come back and find a furry little muzzle poked into it. There is no point getting the hump about it because she is just doing what is normal and taking a drink of water or milk or just tasting wahtever nice morsel you have left on your plate when the opportunity arises. cats are opportunists when it come to drinking and will generally have a drink when they go past a source of water as part of a sort of instinctual survival mechanism ie "might as well have a drink now as you never know when the next water hole will come up". i doubt very much that it will cause you any harm, more bothered about the poor cat and her picking up horrid germs from you. bookie |

Bill King The water bowl gets washed out and refilled each morning at our house, however Louie much prefers to drink from the bathroom sink. He races into the bathroom with me every time he hears the door open, then sits and waits for me to pick him up to set him on the counter top. The water then gets turned on just a tiny bit. Meanwhile, I'm doing the 'potty dance'. (Naturally the cat always comes first) This method of drinking is called a "Chick Lick". After I've finished my business, I have to stand there until Louie is done so I can turn the water off and leave. Yay. -bonbon |

My cat Meowzer did this exact thing his whole life. Every morning when I
was getting ready for work he'd come in for his drink from the sink. I sure miss the fur ball. Celeste "bonbon" wrote in message ... About 6 months ago, Paul decided to have all of his teeth removed. He has never had brilliant teeth, &is also frightened of the dentist, which doesn't help of course. So a while back I convinced him that a trip to the dentist might be the best thing, if only to arrange to have the ones that he had left, removed. He was in constant pain from abscess's & forever taking antibiotics. ( A catch 22 situation. infection meant they couldn't pull them, & not pulling them was causing infection.) Paul had them removed in due course under a general anesthetic, & had some false one's made up so that he could put them straight in as soon as he felt able to... About 3 nights afterwards, I caught Tiggy helping herself to a swig of some of the water in the glass next to the bed. What could I do? It was too late to stop her, & telling Paul would have freaked him out!! (Poor Tiggy.. she could have been poisoned!! However, I Called the vets surgery to tell them what had occurred, & they told me not to worry, that there was no risk to the cat, hence a huge sigh of relief for Tiggy)..Trouble was, that I couldn't think what to say to Paul, to stop him leaving a massive tub full of water with his gnashers in every night, without admitting that the cats were having a right old drink out of it every night- Not just one of them either, I caught all of them @ or time or another! I tried turning the tap on very slightly in the shower & sink corner of the bedroom (en suite), but every single night, Paul would go in straight behind me & make sure the taps weren't dripping, because it kept him awake; in fact it P*ssed him off so much that he went out & bought a washer for the tap, thinking it was faulty- I didn't have the heart to tell him that it wasn't the tap, It was Me, lol! Every night, I would try & come up with new idea's on how to stop them doing it, without being caught out, or allowing the cats to drink it Despite the water bowls, water fountains, & several lids on the gnashers and water inside it, they would still knock it off the side every single night....I even moved the teeth, bowl lid & water in a cupboard to no avail. Lilly learnt how to open the kitchen cupboard. @ this stage, I felt that I had no other option other than to tell Paul what had been happening for the previous 3 months, & to my surprise, he laughed his socks off, Lol ) To this very day, we have a cupboard in the kitchen that has to be duct Taped every single night, because if we didn't, our masters & mistresses would have that cupboard @ every given opportunity. They are superb @ team work too. Taz can open doors, Lilly can open cupboards, Tiggy is the watch out cat, whilst Belle & Ringo get first try outs every- time!!! Those Poor Poor cats, deprived of their favourite drinking water.. *I am only thinking of their welfare*, but they treat me like I am their worst enemy when they are separated from that Tupperware box. They now have to put up with a fresh water fountain in the kitchen, & another in the shower area too.. .. Good Job Paul has a sense of humour too really! How silly of me trying to hide the fact that that was where the missing water went every night. It was rather like being a teenager all over again, & adding water to the box, where as a teenager, it was water to the vodka bottle when we raided the drinks cabinet. The main thing is that they can't reach it now, & I have confessed where the water was going. What an idiot I was, Lol ) Sheelagh "o" -- Sheelagh "o" Message posted via CatKB.com http://www.catkb.com/Uwe/Forums.aspx...ealth/200708/1 |
