Lorelei is getting sweeter all of the time....

After living here for almost 6 months now, a LOT of this has taken place in only the last month or so. I think it is safe to say: I believe I chose...wisely. Our kitties sure do adjust to living within our structures on their own time. Sometimes it can seem like they'll never make the adjustment (or we'll never make the adjustment to them), then all of a sudden - wham. I am absolutely delighted to hear that you two are getting so well attuned to each other. Lorelei sounds like an absolute delight! Dan She really is. I figured out pretty early on that Lorelei's first home was far less than ideal, but I didn't know any details. My bet is that she was never treated the way a cat really deserves to be treated. So, she had to learn, slowly. I was afraid that moving to my home had traumatized her irreparably. The cat tree is wonderful for her: she still spends a great deal of time on it. It gave her a place where she felt safe, where I could approach her, and give her the attention that I think she never got before. It must have been very, very hard for her. But deep down inside was a very, very sweet kitty, just trying to get out, all of this time. I was very discouraged, at first. I remember carrying her into my living room once, and having her absolutely freak out. Now, she is just a big teddy bear, who just loves attention, and getting lots of lap time with me. She is sitting on my lap, even as I type this Truly, we are both very fortunate, indeed. |

I've adopted cats and had to teach then how to play and that it was okay to get on our bed. After almost 6 years Samwise has finally let my husband pick him up.I haven't tried yet. Samwise is are semi-feral cat we trapped in the back yard when he was about 4 months old. -- Ann in Connecticut |

Now, if I spend a lot of time at my computer, as I tend to do, I can count on a lap buddy 4 or 5 times a day She is so sweet: she comes up behind me, and taps my arm or shoulder, to let me know I have to move away from my computer desk, to make room for her in my lap. She weighs close to 15 pounds, after all. Even as I type this, she is sitting on my lap. If I neglect to fulfill her scritch quota for awhile, she gives me a sweet little meow, to remind me that contractually, the arrangement is supposed to be that she sits in my lap, and I pet her and scritch her ears, and also her chin. and the base of her tail. And rub her tummy, too. If I am doing a good job, she has both of her eyes closed; if I am only using one hand, she may have one eye closed. If I am petting her, she likes to look at me with those pretty blue eyes of hers. All cats have such pretty eyes, but I confess I am totally smitten by Lorelei's beautiful blue eyes. On Sunday evening, I was watching one of my old B&W movies on videotape. I have hundreds of them, some more as old as 30 years. I love old movies I heard Lorelei meow, and she was only a few feet away. She has never, to my knowledge, strayed more than a foot of two from my computer desk. But, with some encouragement, she slowly climbed up onto my sofa, and over to me. I should mention that my 'sofa' is a double recliner, because my house is too small for a 'real' couch. And one side of the recliner has never worked. Anyways, ever so slowly, Lorelei climbed on top of me, and settled, first in my lap, and then lying full length on my chest. There is nothing in the world more wonderful than to have a cat lying on top of you, while you watch a movie made 75 years ago, with good acting, and directing, and character development, instead of car chases, explosions, machine guns, and CGI. And, Lorelei stayed for the entire movie, close to two hours, until I was finally forced to get up, and visit the bathroom. Lorelei has also taken to coming and checking up on me, if I'm there for more than a minute or two. Not always...but pretty often. As I move about the house, I often find that after a greater or lesser period of time, Lorelei comes to check up on me. It's as if she likes to know where I am....and if she can get some attention, while she checks on my whereabouts. My house is tiny: I'm sure she can pretty easily hear Lorelei left, and came back, while I was typing this. Which proves that not only am I just about the world's slowest typer (typing person...?) but that Lorelei really, really loves me. And, she is quite quickly approaching the almost unattainable high bar set by my nearly incomparably sweet RB kitty, Kenzie. It is hard to believe, even for me. After living here for almost 6 months now, a LOT of this has taken place in only the last month or so. Hi Judith, I'm okay, I guess...still have the darned arthritis. Oh well...thanks for asking. I'm fine but missing so many friends. I'm glad to hear you're fine So although I've been lurking here for many years, I decided I'd better join in as so many of those friends are here now. There has improved but I don't suppose anyone wants to come back so I'll be on here as well now. Judith Well, to be honest, a lot of people were being so mean to me 'there' I don't want to go back, but I've always liked you Judith, and am glad to see you post here You were always nice to me and I appreciated that, but there was too much fighting going on 'there' and I don't go where I'm not welcome. My feelings were hurt too many times and I was also being stalked by someone who posted 'there' about me from the Pink Floyd ng I subscribe to and to avoid more trouble, I just left. You are welcome to e-mail me at any time..I wish I had your e-mail address. I do understand about munging e-mail addys lol. Mine is IF you ever feel like e-mailing me. I have a Yahoo addy that I use too, but the Comcast one is more secure. I'd love to hear from you. I don't even read 'there' any more..last time was a few days ago and that's when I found out about Orion, who had visited' here' a few times. 'Here' is a lot more fun and without all the fighting/insulting/killfiles/grousing and such. And even reading 'there' raises my BP. lol I keep in touch with a few nice people from 'there', and I'd love to hear from you. I doubt if anyone else from 'there' will e-mail me, but if they do, they better be nice....lol Thank you for caring about me and I hope all is well with you. Take care Kyla |
