Default Email From Somebody Claiming to Be Me

I was just informed by another poster here that someone, using my name
but with a return email that bounced, sent them an email begging for
money to supposedly pay for a vet fee. I'm would have hoped that those
who have known me well here for years now knows that I have NEVER asked
for money for ANY reason - even when I was faced with a sick cat and no
money in the bank (we sold some electronics on e-Bay to pay for that bill).

This has me EXTREMELY upset, not only that someone is ruining my good
name and reputation, but that anyone here would believe that I would
send such an email in the first place - especially when a reply to that
email address bounced. I have to say that my feelings are really,
really hurt.

If you ever receive such an email, please let me know and send me the
email address it was sent from because if I EVER find out who is doing
this I will prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.

Again, I would hope you all KNOW that I would NEVER, EVER ask for money
from any of my friends, no matter what the reason.

Sorry for the many typos, I guess it's obvious that I was and am still
very upset about this.

This must be a scam. It went around last spring, also. Same cat, same
photo, same story. They raised $500. Google still has the original
page
archived - it says "Fundraiser is over."
Now it looks like they're just starting over with the same story.
"Billie
needs all her teeth pulled or be euthanized."

It sounds perfectly plausible to me that they'd harvest addresses
from this ng for internet begging purposes though I haven't gotten
one.

Sherry

1) She should have already had Billie's teeth pull

It's an old scam. It's nothing personal towards you sweety. They've
been doing it for decades. Harvest an email address and send begging
messages to all and sundry (usually everyone in their address book)
claiming to be that person in acute financial distress for some
vaguelly plausible-sounding reason (eg. I'm in a foreign country and
my papers and wallet were stolen, animal in urgent need of an
operation, etc etc.), please send money immediately... then sit back
and wait to see who's gullible enough to bite without checking.

Is that who is responsible? Lori is really upset with me atm for e-mailing
her back to object to a mail I thought she sent to my private e-mail address
which only a few know.
Which raises another question. How did this person, Katie, get hold of my
private e-mail address? I don't use it to post to the group. Weird.

Yes that was it! The email directing this person to this site was
signed "CatNipped" but it most CERTAINLY was not me!

Thanks Lesley - I'm afraid they may have hacked into my email account to
get these addresses (thankfully I don't do a lot of offline emailing so
they won't get a great deal of data). If you would send me your note
I'll use those headers and the other information provided here and try
to put together enough evidence to get this person convicted for
identity fraud. This is NOT a nice thing to do to me!

You could go to the Kapipal website and lodge a complaint. Regardless
of who sent the spam out, "Kati" is likely responsible as she is the
one
who benefits. It's bad enough she's playing on emotions for what's
probably
a scam, but faking emails is way over the line.
