Speaking of Fleas...
I have a question. Persia is an indoor cat but she does have that Kitty
Walk mesh enclosure on the patio. I got her a flea collar which I put on her when she's going to sit outside. Soon it will be too hot for that. I leave it on for a day after she's been out there, then take it off. In the time since I bought the enclosure she's shown *no* signs of fleas. Is this pretty much sufficient? Jill |

Jill Jill, as long as you're not seeing any fleas, I wouldn't worry about it. I'm a firm believer in NOT using chemicals on animals unless it's absolutely necessary. You're a very attentive Meowmie, if she does pick up some fleas, you'll notice them before they get bad on her. You might do some research on the brand of collar you're using, just to be sure you know exactly what chemicals are in it, and whether it uses any organophosphates. Sherry |

Is this pretty much sufficient? Jill Jill, I wouldn't use a flea collar at all. It's becoming more known how toxic they are. If she's on the patio, I'd probably not use anything at all unless you actually find a flea. Though, I know you're in the South so it could be better to be proactive. Advantage or Frontline would be better. You probably wouldn't even have to put it on her every month, but maybe every other month during the "season". -- Cheryl |

Shmogg is a 98% indoor cat, Fluffy the dog spends about equal time indoors and out. And while both have had fleas in the past whilst living here, the last time I used Frontline was over a year ago, and I haven't seen (or felt!) a flea since. As I'm allergic to all anti-flea products (although Frontline causes the least reaction out of all the products I've tried over the years), I don't use any products until I sea evidence of actual fleas. I fugure none of us, critters included, need to be exposed to more agressive chemicals than necessary. Yowie |
