Hi Group,

I'm sorry I haven't been posting much lately. I've been so busy, but I do
try to keep up to date with what's going on here.

Anyway, my Romeo is in hospital now. He was admitted yesterday because he
has been losing weight gradually and eating less and less. I had scheduled
an appointment for next thursday, but I didn't think I should wait until
then, so I took him to the hospital yesterday (saturday) morning. The animal
hospital (http://www.lortsmith.com/) is going to do a range of tests to see
what is going on with him.

They've had him on IV since yesterday morning to rehydrate him. He is
feeling a little better today and eating a little.

One lot of tests showed that he may be anaemic or suffering from Leukemia.
He has elevated white blood cells and his liver may not be functioning
normally. He will be having his liver x-rayed today to see if there is a
tumor on his liver. He will also have another blood test today, specifically
for liver function. They may also have to do an ultrasound, depending on
what the x-rays reveal today.

Romeo will be celebrating his 12th birthday on March 1st.

I will keep you posted.

Purrs to all,

{{{{Flippy}}}}} I'm sure you are very worried about Romeo. I truly
hope he will be okay. Sending mega purrs from me and 7 cats and 2
kittens for Romeo to be well.

Default UPDATE on Romeo's condition - Feb 13th, AM.

I hope that it turns out to be something that is easily treated - some
kind of infection that responds to antibiotics. Meanwhile, us and
Potjie are purring up a storm for your boy.

Hi group,

First of all I'd like to thank everyone for their purrs and prayers and good
wishes. I have been overwhelmed with messages, so please forgive me if I
don't reply to you personally.

Romeo has had many tests done since Saturday. (More than $600 worth!) So
far, the results show that he doesn't have Leukemia, Thyroid or Kidney
failure.

Romeo had x-rays done yesterday to see if he has a tumor on his liver.
Results from the x-tray were inconclusive with regards to the liver. He was
booked to have an ultrasound done on his liver this morning (Monday).

This morning he had an ultrasound done. The u/s specialist called me to let
me know that he had done the u/s on his chest. I was surprised because I
thought that the u/s was to be done on the liver. I questioned the
specialist about this. Apparently, he had looked at the x-ray before
commencing the u/s. He thinks that the liver problem may be a symptom, not
the main cause of the illness. He thought that the chest looked more
congested than normal. In a strange way this made sense to me, because Romeo
has never fully recovered from the bad case of flu he had several years ago.

The u/s revealed that Romeo has excess fluid on his lungs, so a fluid sample
has been taken and sent to the lab for analysis. The results should be back
this afternoon or tomorrow morning. If the results are inconclusive,
tomorrow Romeo will have to be put under a light anaesthesia and have a
tissue sample taken from his chest cavity and sent to the lab for analysis.
I hope that poor little Romeo doesn't have to go through this.

The people at the Lort Smith Animal Hospital are taking very good care of
Romeo. The vets that I have spoken to all say how lovely and quiet he is,
which makes him so easy to treat. I am so proud of my boy.

Thanks again for your kind messages. I will keep you informed of Romeo's
progress.

Purrs to all,

After going through all that, he just has to get cured of whatever it is
that affects him. Purrs for Romeo's complete healing. MLB

Purrs to all,

We'll be sending purrs for Romeo. He's very sweet. It's so hard
worrying about them. I know I've never felt as much fear, or as much
sadness as when a little furry is unwell.
