MaryL
"mlbriggs" wrote in message news I cannot find any MaryL postings lately. Did the Texas floods affect her area? MLB I was on a two-week vacation and just returned to Texas this evening. There was no damage at all in my area, but thanks for asking!! I went to Ohio to visit friends and relatives and to go to my 50th high school class reunion. Fifty years!! It's hard to believe. I had a fantastic time. So often, we hear that "you can't go home again," but I had a much better time than I could possibly have expected. We had 91 in our graduating class, and 15 have died. There were 58 classmates at the reunion (which I think is a great resonse) and 104 in attendance including spouses and guests. I had a *wonderful* time visiting with old friends. Miraculously, everyone seemed to know me at first glance, and several said that I "hadn't changed much" since high school. Well, that's not true, but it was a nice ego-booster. I spent an entire day with the woman who was my best friend from 3rd grade through high school. She lives in Florida, and we hadn't seen each other for more than 20 years. We traveled all around our old "stomping grounds" and visited some friends. We even went to the high school, and the principal gave us a personal guided tour. Extensions have been added to each end of the original school, so we could hardly recognize it when we first started the tour. My brother and sister-in-law took my sister and I, my aunt, and a cousin to dinner at a wonderful restaurant in Pittsburgh for our annual "group birthday" feast. The next day, my sister and I got together with my aunt and seven female cousins for our annual get-together, and my sister's in-laws had us over for a delightful dinner. Everyone feeds me like I have been starving for a year when I return for two weeks every summer. Holly and Duffy are in fine shape. I have had the same pet sitter for 5 years. She comes in twice a day to feed, groom, and play with my furbabies. She said Duffy was his usual friendly self from the very first day, and Holly generally stared at her with a "you're NOT my momma" look but did not object to her attentions. Both of them have been all over me ever since I arrived home this evening. My own mother is also doing well. She had been in and out of the hospital recently, so the whole trip was problematic for awhile. My sister and I went to the nursing home to see her as soon as we arrived home. She was delighted to see us. She was more tired than usual, but she was lucid and communicative. She is 91 years old and has been basically bed-ridden for more than 5 years, but she has remained remarkably cheerful for most of that time. She also has all of her motherly instincts intact even though she suffers from dementia (substantial short-term memory loss). She always tells us how much she loves us, tells me to be sure to get enough rest, and tells me she does not want to "impose" on me. She tells both my sister and me that we are "beautiful" every single time we see her. I am really grateful to have had such loving parents. (My father died a number of years ago, but he was equally loving and supportive.) Again, thanks for asking about my absence. I'm glad to be able to report that it was for happy reasons and not due to any problems. MaryL |
