For those of you that aren’t in the know, a retired gent in California
put up an “owl box” in his back yard, in hopes of attracting a nesting
pair of barn owls. It worked, and with the help of his grandson, he has
it broadcasting (for free) to the world! So far Molly has 4 chicks and
one egg due to hatch on April 4.,,

Wow, that's pretty amazing! It's so bright in the box, I guess he put
a light in it? Because if it's a live cam, that can't be sunshine - it's
not daylight in California right now!

The audio is pretty graphic - every time she takes a bite from the
rabbit, you hear this loud sucking noise! But I love the little chirpy
chicks. (Yikes, something just screeched! Just this minute. I hope it
wasn't the mom getting hurt. All I can see are the babies now.)

I can't keep up with all the tweets, IMs and Facebook posts - they're
just flying past! Popular site, I guess.

Cute. You know I love birds. But get "grandpa" out of the corner of the
video chatting about the owls and trying to drum up money about a book or
whatever. I just want to see the owls and owlets!

Interesting...I haven't seen or heard "grandpa" on any of the occasions when
I have watched. All I see are the owls and owlets (just what you want).
There is a streaming chat (printed) on the right side of the screen, but I
just ignore that.

He pops up every once in a while... just did while I was on the phone
explaining the web cam thing to John. "Grandpa" is asking for donations
now. Sorry, not happening. But I enjoy watching the birds.

The running commentary is rather funny. They were surprised owls kill
rabbits and yes, they'll kill and eat them right in front of you thanks to
this web cam. Were they expecting this guy to feed them Purina Owl-chow?
LOL

By "they" do you mean the grandfather speaking into the mike? Or the
commentary on the right, which streams by so fast it's impossible to keep
up with it?

I was referring to the streaming commentary, which is apparently part of a
live chat session. While I was watching someone commented about having seen
the mother owl ripping apart a rabbit her mate brought and feeding it to the
chicks. The person seemed quite surprised. Yeah, kids, this isn't
America's Funniest Home Videos Those owls are a birds of prey. That's
why I like web cams like this; they're educational, to say the least.

When Carlos (granpa) speaks, it is usually for the benefit of the
classrooms that tune in (entire grade school classrooms have tuned in,
as well as a lot of home-schoolers). The "donations" are probably to
help defray the cost of the set-up (over $1000 to date), and this is a
private citizen that did this, not an organization, school, or wildlife
center/zoo). You can eliminate the streaming chat by enlarging the
video to full screen. At night the video should go to B & W, as he uses
a "night vision" camera for then.
