SIGH I knew something like this might happen.

Jessie defecated outside of the litter box this morning, and in the feces
was a roundworm. It looked like this, except it was a bit more

translucent
and had bloody streaks in it.

Others have suggested you might be able to get away with just getting a
prescription. If you saw the roundworm in poop I'd have popped the poop
into a baggie to show the vet and prevent a fecal exam... just my two cents
which is of course, too late.

I didn't see it or I would have. DH found it in his office this morning,
picked it up, and flushed it, and didn't tell me until later that he found
it. I pulled up a picture on Google and he identified it - and I did get
the vet to prescribe some Drontal without an exam (they did insist that she
come in to be weighed), but charged us $20 for 2 pills (one today and one
two weeks from today).

Hugs,

I don't have any hopes that the vet will treat her over the phone, so I'll
probably be bringing her in today after the vet calls me back (gawd, I can't
afford this right now!!!), but I thought I'd garner some wisdom from the
group in the mean time.

Are roundworms some of the stuff Revolution prevents?

I don't think so - I just treated them with Revolution just a little over a
month ago (I need to remember to treat them again tomorrow). I got the vet
to give me some Drontal with the full exam and fecal - but they did insist
she come in a be weighed before they gave it to me. Two does (of a *HUGE*
pill) one that same day and one two weeks later.

Hugs,

CatNipped

Told you: get 'em to come into the 21st Century & upgrade to "Milbemax".
Nice tiny pill suitable for frisky kittens too (in the appropriate
strength).

PS Snowball sends friendly admirer's greetings to Demi & would
like some new piccies of her when you get time :-)

It does treat for roundworms! Check with your vet to make sure you're
not overdosing.

Yep, I wish they would have - Jessie is our hardest to pill.

I'll see about getting some more pictures of Demi tonight (she hardly comes
out from under the bed with all the commotion going on.

The package says to apply once a month. I don't understand how the topical
ointment could kill roundworms though - don't cats usually get them by
eating a critter that has them?

IIRC, the medication in Revolution is absorbed through the skin, so it
acts on internal parasites as well. Make sure to mention this to the
vet, just in case.
