To use the litterbox. He likes to use the out for his toilet duties but
it's really cold here. It was -5C last night so he was in all night. He
asked to go out this morning when it was still about -3.
He changed his mind when he saw how cold it was, returned and did the most
massive pee in KFC's clean litterbox. He must have been saving it all night
as it took him a whole minute to do it! and it definitely ruined the
litterbox as it spread and spread and spread.
Poor lad, it has be dire circumstances before he will consider using a
litterbox.
-5 is dire circumstances in anyone's book. Brrrr.

Even MORE "dire" if one is accustomed to Fahrenheit and misread your
"-5C" as "-50"! 8-)

We don't get *that* cold in the UK, in my lifetime it has never fallen below
0°F.

I am accustomed to Fahrenheit myself. Maybe you forgot that Britain used to
use this scale too. Until I was teenage or maybe a bit older. My mind is
still set for wanting to know what the weather is going to be like in
fahrenheit.

He probably learned from experience that if he did it outside on such a day
his weewee would get frostbit!

The boy is not stupid minus 5C is far too cold to be weeing outside, far
too cold to be out at all.
He's asleep on my sofa atm. He has no intention of going out until the
temperature improves.

My tough little Finnish-Estonian Russian Blue is out right now in -9C.
Doesn't show any sign of wanting to come inside, either.

Caliban is staying inside, though.

-5 degrees sounds very impressive until I realize it means 23 degrees
farenheit. When I lived in Boston I was out in that temperature all the
time. Granted, any indoor-outdoor cats I might have had probably didn't
spend much time outside in that weather.

Be nice to him - he's very ill right now!

It's fairly mild by my standards, and positively balmy by the standards
of my sister who lives in Winnipeg!

Nevertheless, poor Boyfriend obviously has higher standards as to
weather, since he actually chose a litter box over the Great Outdoors!

Sam, after a brief period of adjustment, now generally much prefers the
indoors too. However, he has once in a while managed to scoot out around
my legs to investigate interesting smells. Mostly, he doesn't even
bother to try, but I suppose every so often some outside animal has been
laying down interesting smells, or something. Normally, he doesn't go
very far, and is much easier to retrieve than Mandy (RB) was - Betsy
(RB), once she discovered IN, never cared to go OUT again, except for
very brief periods in the summer, when she was alone in the house with
me and Mandy-on-a-string in the back yard. And then, after about 30
seconds (it sometimes seemed) she wanted In again.

Sam has discovered that if there's something nasty, cold and wet falling
from the sky, he can duck under the front steps and sniff around there
in the relatively dry, if not in the warm. Of course, if I get fed up
with him and leave him there, he's soon meowing indignantly at the front
door to get back in. I have never encountered a cat who didn't think
that the door should be left wide open in any kind of weather until he
or she was quite ready to use it!

It must be that tough Finnish-Estonian blood! Perhaps those northern
cats naturally have high cold tolerance! But if that's the case, why
does Caliban like to stay indoors? G

Caliban is staying inside, though.
