Cat poem
This was new to me, but apologies if you've all heard it before.
Chak STRAY CAT by Francis Witham Oh, what unhappy twist of fate Has brought you homeless to my gate? The gate where once another stood To beg for shelter, warmth, and food For from that day I ceased to be The master of my destiny. While he, with purr and velvet paw Became within my house the law. He scratched the furniture and shed And claimed the middle of my bed. He ruled in arrogance and pride And broke my heart the day he died. So if you really think, oh Cat, I'd willingly relive all that Because you come forlorn and thin Well...don't just stand there...Come on in! |

Cat poem
I for one have not heard it before, and it's gorgeous. Thanks for
posting it. I have a good friend who was once with the circus and traveled around with a little dog act. The last of her dogs, Romana (they were all named after Companions or other characters in Doctor Who) was sent into her well-earned retirement over the Bridge last year. This poem made me think of Joy...she was one of the first to come with condolences and a covered dish when our Fritzie was RB in 2003, and she asked us if were would ever consider another cat. Of course, we told her. (I was worried then about whether it was too soon, if we were disrespectful to the memory of our boy by going too quickly, until a good thumping lecture from Louie made me see the nature of love and respect in a different light.) A home was no home without a pet to love. And Joy told us, "Good for you! I can't stand it when someone loses a pet and says never again, they can't deal with losing another; but you can't take all your kitty love and just put it on a back shelf in the cupboard." Truer or better words are rarely spoken. Blessed be, Baha Chakolate wrote: This was new to me, but apologies if you've all heard it before.
