2 or 3 times a week depends on their activity

I think there is a mix up on what was meant.

Are they asking about emptying the box or scooping the box??

If it is emptying then 2 - 3 times a day - ?????????????

If it is scooping the box then 2 - 3 times a week - ?????????????????

I use scoopable litter and scoop a couple of times a day.
I've learned that the more careful I am about scooping, the
clumps don't break up, and I don't have to change the
whole box of litter so often.

Same here. *I have an extra box, so when I do need to change it, I switch
boxes, wash the one I'm replacing and let it air until the next time I
switch.

Of course, it could depend on how many cats one has. *I have two.

I remember reading that the standard rule is: One box for every cat,
plus one. This isn't always true. I have four cats, and had five
boxes.
One of the boxes, no one ever used, so I took it up. There's another
box now that no one ever uses. So I'm thinking of taking *it* away,
which
will make us three boxes for four cats.
But my fear is that as soon as I remove it, *someone* will go "I was
going to use that box." And pee in the floor where it used to be.

Our girls seem to be quite happy to share their under-the-bed-box. We
really don't have room for more than one litterbox, and nobody's ever
made a fuss about wanting 'their own'. So we have three cats and one
jumbo-sized box (which I guess is the size of two standard litterboxes
side-by-side.) It's a little smaller than the one I had before and
we've had a few 'missing-the-box' problems but that's just because
Scouty mounds the litter up in the corner and then stands on top of
it!

I scoop the poop every few days, if I notice it getting stinky, and
completely change the box once a week, using 3/4 small bag of Feline
Pine (the older box held a whole bag, and it lasted 10 days between
changes... ce sera.) Which reminds me, it's Saturday - time to take
care of the little darlings...

I guess it all depends on how effective your litter is at
odour-control, how good your ventilation is around the box (ours is in
the guest bathroom so it has a fan to turn on when they stinkify the
place), and how sensitive your nose is to feline odours.

I scoop whenever I see a box has been used. Believe it or not, I only
change the litter about once a year. I use Pestel clumping litter and
try to keep a good depth in the box. I have three large boxes and Amber
insists on peeing in one and pooping in another. Tiger will sometimes
poop in two different boxes at one sitting. He also is inclined to
leave cling-ons on the floor.

Same here. I scoop the box at least once a day, sometimes twice depending
on the thru-put ; I completely empty it and [completely] change the litter
once a month. But then again, I only have one cat. I also use cat pan
liners, the kind with drawstrings (like a trash bag). So when it comes time
to completely empty the box it's simple. Then I take the box itself
outside, add some mild dish soap and hose it out. In goes a new liner, new
litter, and the cycle starts again.

I can't use box liners with clawed cats - they dig too enthusiastically
and end up ripping holes in it thereby nullifying any good it would do.

That's not a dig, BTW, I know perfectly well that Persia came to you
when some scumbag left her OUTSIDE, DECLAWED, and IN THE COLD, before
you came to her rescue. It was just a statement of fact.
