[OT] Interesting Health Article

Regarding overweight and high cholesterol affecting vision (from "Remedy"
Magazine by Sid Kirchheimer)...

"After tracking some 1,500 overweight people with type 1 diabetes for six
years, Harvard researchers report in the journal *Diabetes* that, compared
to those with normal cholesterol levels, people with high "bad" (LDL)
cholesterol (usually 130 mg/dl or higher) double the risk of developing
macular edema - fluid in the part of the eye that controls detailed central
vision for tasks such as reading. Risk for this eye disease quadruples with
a poor total-to-HDL cholesterol ratio, in which total cholesterol is more
than 4.4 times higher than the "good" (HDL) cholesterol level. Although no
relationship was found between high cholesterol and the development of other
forms of diabetic retinopathy, the take-home message is clear: To protect
eyesight, you need to be vigilant about controlling cholesterol levels with
statin drugs, diet, regular exercise and weight control."

Back on topic. I've never heard of cholesterol testing for cats - is this
also a concern for them as it is for humans? Do overweight cats / diabetic
cats also have problems with vision? Anyone know of any corollaries?
