A criminal, burglar say, has no worry that the police who come to
catch him will be armed. They won't, so neither does he need to be,
and therefore he won't be and no-one will get shot.

Note that burglary is a non-confrontational crime. If I'm planning a
burglary, I'm going to set out to not encounter the victim or law
enforcement. So no need for a weapon. If I do encounter them, I still
don't
want a weapon because it escalates the penalty without giving any extra
ability to flee. And if I'm planning a confrontational crime (like a
mugging), I want to choose a weapon that's as scary as possible to keep
my
victim from attempting to flee.

I had some advice from an ex-burglar (reformed now.) It's certainly true
that they'd like to be in and out with the loot without encountering
anyone.
Anyway, this chap told me to leave a radio playing in the house, and then
they can't be sure if you are in or not and won't risk it. I always do
this
when I go out.
Worked so far..
And it's very true. If a radio is playing, it's very likely that someone
is
in and listening.

The problem is finding programming the cats like.

LOL! Mine is set to my local radio station, a mixture of talk and music.
The cats haven't objected up to now ;-)

Not really that weird. Cats would be unlikely to be in danger from the
average burglar. Remember, cats are really good hiders, and if the
burglar is only interested in taking stuff and getting out of there as
fast as possible, he's not going to go looking for your cats - if he even
knows they're there. As Catnipped said, it would have to be a real sicko
who would be there specifically to harm a living thing, and that's not
very likely. Most break-ins are about stealing.

I'll bet you'd have different instincts in a fire.

That's a nice image, Cheryl.

We often leave on either the TV or radio for the cats. They need
entertainment too.

Sweetie, I value your posts, as a rule, but not when you get nasty.

Joyce is a warm and loving person. That being said, like most of us,
she needs to learn when to hit that send button and when to delete.
There are days, and threads, when I actually send about 3 in every 10
posts I write as a reply. There are some people whom I won't reply to
at all, as they send my blood pressure through the roof.

Please think before you hit that post button. We like to play nice in
here and sometimes that means ignoring those posts that we personally
find objectionable.

That being said. BOTH of you need to be nice, or we'll have to write
"does not play well with others" on your report cards.

Pam S. who knows there are a fair number of educators in here

Last night, a guy walked into a crowded nightclub in my city, and
opened fire. Five are dead, two others wounded seriously, possibly
others wounded less seriously. The shooter was killed by a police
officer, or else more might be dead. He apparently shot the guitarist
of the band first.

Last night was also the anniversary of the assassination of John
Lennon.

When will this sort of madness stop?

It was also the 10th anniversary of my beloved Circe's crossing to the
Bridge.

I am really starting to dislike December 8th.

There have been some...interesting...police reports of a burglar calling

Belongs in the Stupid Criminals File.
