Default Humane Society pet food warning-IMPORTANT

The Humane Society of the US just ran an article about a pet food recall due
to toxic contamination. It is for both dog and cat food produced by one
manufacturer. Here is the link to the article:

Besides the information provided here, I saw someplace today (sorry, I
can't remember where I saw it) that Diamond also private-labels the
affected dog food as Cosco "Kirkland" brand pet foods and Chicken Soup
Brand Dog Food.

I've been on the phone with Costco today, up a few levels on the
management chain, and have managed to find that, at least in California
(which applies to you, Dan, as well as to me), we are not affected by
this. The pet food we buy at local Costco stores is produced in a plant
in California, which didn't have the problem with the toxin. One of the
managers read aloud over the phone to me a memo they received from their
corporate headquarters, saying that the recall doesn't apply to West
Coast Costco stores.

Stores that get their pet food from the plant in Gaston, SC, *are*
affected, so if you are in any area that gets their pet food from that
plant, you need to be concerned about it. If you're not sure, you can
call the company, or the store where you bought the food, to find out
where they get their merchandise.

Also, Diamond's phone number, 1-866-214-6945, has had a "circuit busy"
signal all day. I guess a lot of panicked pet owners have been calling!
