Default Halogen oven (OT)

I got one a while ago and it's very useful. Last night when boyfie & I
were watching the telly we heard a crash from the kitchen and now it's a
gonner. I spent ages with the vacuum cleaner cleaning up from the smashed
glass for Boyfie's paws.
I stil don't know how it happened.
I've ordered another halogen cooker from Amazon.

Gremlins? Sorry your lost your oven. (I've never seen a Halogen oven.)

I've ordered another halogen cooker from Amazon.

Hopefully the gremlins (or whatever) won't get the new one.

That's weird. Crashes from another room usually implicate one of my cats,
but you had Boyfie with you. Hmm. Maybe you have greeblings? Maybe Boyfie
has a job to do.

Anyway, I'm sorry that happened, however it happened! It sounds expensive.

I knkow what you mean! Whenever glass breaks in my house, I'm super-paranoid
about it and I vacuum everywhere. Licky races for the cave under my bed - he
doesn't realize I'm using the sucky monster for his benefit. (Well, and Roxy's
and mine, too.)

I've often considered getting one- how good are they? Are they hard to use?

No, but you have to get used to them otherwise you burn everything. They
save loads of electricity versus a conventional oven but you can't do a full
Sunday dinner in one. Great for cooking chickens (1 hour) although they
claim 45 mins, not enough.
I like mine but they do take some getting used to. But it's worth learning
IMO.

It's a tabletop device, like a big goldfish bowl with a lid that has an
electrical element with a fan that cooks your meals at less cost than a
conventional electric oven.

I chose this pic at random, this is not what I have. Just to give you an
idea of what they look like.

Boyfie thought it was definitely gremlins and wanted to explore round the
deceased cooker. I had to put him outside to prevent paw damage while I
cleaned it all up.

I put him outside while I used the sucky monster as he really hates it, and
he wasn't very keen on being put outside but sometimes a meowmie needs to do
what a meowmie needs to do for Boyfie's greater good.
It's been suggested that I claim on the 12 months insurance I got with it,
saying the bowl cracked for no reason. I simply can't do that because I
know that wasn't the case, so I've ordered a new one.
How it happened, I don't know and never will.

The upside is that June has the same model so I can give her the lid with
the all important electrical parts in in case hers fails.
The downside is I now have to stay in for days waiting for my new one to
arrive.

They don't even tell you which *day* they're coming? That seems a little
extreme.

Usually when I'm getting something delivered, I might have to wait an
entire day, but never more than that. Sometimes you can specify morning or
afternoon, or even shorter windows of time.

This is the kind of situation where a mobile phone would come in handy.
They could call you when they're on the way so you can go in the house
and be ready when they arrive.

I think the issue of what my brother gets me for Xmas might just have been solved

I do have a mobile phone but calling me on it was not an option. However my
new oven has arrived today, already!
Haven't used it yet but it doesn't seem the quality of my last one. I
reserve judgment on it until I've used it. I'm sure it will be fine.
For one or two people, a halogen oven will save a whole lot of power but you
do need to experiment with it and get used to it. It's not the same as
cooking in a conventional oven. Sufficient to say I wanted another one. I
wouldn't recommend one for a big family, but they are excellent for one or
two.
