OT Update on the Store Down the Street
Some of you might remember I was dismayed at the manner in which the store
down the street, quite convenient, had gone downhill after the original owner of 20+ years sold it. Long story short, bad produce, nearly empty shelves, freezer units constantly going on the fritz, expired cheeses and such... I contacted the health department. Apparently it was all too much for the new owner to handle (and he was too much for me to handle, too). He's split and sold the place to a lovely young couple from Ethiopia. Now the produce is once again fresh, the freezer case is in working order, shelves are stocked. I'm happy again because it truly is a convenience when the grocery store is 10 miles away. Jill |

There was a store like that on the corner of a street I used to live on many years ago. Turned out that the owner's real business was a bookie operation, and the store was just a front. You'd go in there, and find single items lined up along the very front of each shelf, with vast emptiness behind them - as though that would fool someone into thinking, "Oh, look, the shelf is stocked full right to the front!" They sold the business (probably got busted and went out of business) to some Latino folks who turned it into a Latin market, which was fun for me because I was studying Spanish at the time, so I got to practice, and I was learning to cook a few Central and South American dishes, and they had the supplies. If your response is any indication, their store will do well. I hope it does. --Fil |

Quite aside from your enjoyment of the new regime, if your complaint really was the impetus for the change in ownership, consider how many people you may have saved from food poisoning. -- Wayne M (indulged by Will and Heidi) |

I'm not positive my complaint was the impetus, but I see a lot more cars in the parking lot (it's not a big store) since the other guy abandoned ship! Jill |
