Default Drinkwell Fountain Experiment

Remember (okay, so you don't!) I found before my first trip in June I'd
cleaned Persia's Drinkwell fountain and accidentally inserted the filter
facing the wrong way. Of course I turn the fountain off when she's being
boarded and before she came home I cleaned the fountain. But I noticed with
the filter inserted backwards, the fountain bowl, spout, flow control parts
didn't get gunky or require as thorough a cleaning.

So as a control study I decided to wash it out and put the filter back
*correctly* and keep an eye on how it went while Persia was still at home
but I was away almost all day with my LLL. Hmmm, with the filter turned the
*correct* way the fountain requires more excessive cleaning earlier.

Given the fact that our water is neither excessively hard (mineral stains
aren't a problem) nor excessively soft (can't rinse soap off, ugh!), I think
phase three of this study is a thorough cleaning of the fountain and then no
filter at all, in any direction.

NOTE: The results of this experiment will not prevent a complete cleaning
of the Drinkwell Fountain on a weekly basis; merely determine whether or not
I should expend money on filters for no good reason

Jill
