Memories: Persia and the Trip to SC
Some of you may remember when Persia was transported from West Tennessee
to South Carolina. That was in 2008. She did *not* like riding in the car. Her carrier was belted in in the back seat. It was a 700 mile drive. We took it slow so as not to stress Persia too much. At first John and I thought she got lost when we stopped a pet-friendly hotel for the night. I let Persia out of her carrier and she tried to hide under the bed. Sorry, girl, those beds are built on platforms. I gave her her food and water and set out her litterbox. We walked across the street to a resaurant to grab some dinner. I hung the Do Not Disturb sign on the door. We came back... no Persia. We couldn't find her anywhere. We had half the hotel staff out looking for her. I'd about given up. Then John said to me, "I found her!". She had managed to squeeze her [then] 15 lb. furry butt between the wall and the night-stand. Her fur was so dark we couldn't see her when we first looked for her. Goofy little girl. Believe me, she wasn't out of my sight again until I got her to SC. Just outside of Savannah, Georgia, we stopped to get a bite to eat. I called Mom to tell her we were nearly there, about an hour away. Mom asked us to pick up a rotisserie chicken for dinner. Oh, okay. Persia hadn't eaten the entire trip. The poor thing had to endure the rest of the drive with the scent of roasted chicken next to her in the back seat of the car. That must have been torture. I got her settled in the bedroom, she hid for nearly two weeks. My mother was like, are you sure you have a cat? LOL Yep, she's around somewhere. Persia didn't venture out of the bedroom (where her food and water was, litterbox in the master bath) for the longest time. Slowly, but surely, she claimed every inch of the house. My mother even got to pet her. Mom didn't really know how to act around cats. It was like she expected them to do something weird. Okay, cats do weird things but it's nothing to be afraid of. When Mom came home from the hospital shortly before she died she said to me, "Where's our cat?" Awwwww. Our cat? I found Persia and brought her into Mom's bedroom and she gave her some scritches. How sweet. Yes, Mom, we had a cat. Jill |

Oddly enough, chicken cat food was her favourite. That, and beef or liver. She was never a big fan of seafood anything. How lovely that your mom asked where "our" cat was and that Persia was happy to have those scritches. Judith I know! I was so surprised when she asked where "our" cat was. She was hiding, of course. Mom was transported home by ambulance so there were the attendants, her doctor and a nurse to get her settled. Persia did not like strangers! But when I picked her up she let me take her into her room and mom petted her. It's a nice memory of both of them. Jill |
