Default OT - my dad died

I posted this in another group and I've been very busy helping Mom and
grieving. Dad lost his battle with cancer on Father's Day. We all got
together Sunday and he actually tried to eat some, and he'd been doing
better since Mother's day. My niece got married on the 13th and he did very
well that weekend, though he got sick eating at the restaurant breakfast bar
the next morning. He had been to church that Sunday morning on the day he
died and everyone commented that he looked well. By the time we all got
together for dinner that night he felt weak and also got sick after eating a
little bit, but then he ate some dinner and some ice cream cake for dessert.
After we all left and he'd gone to bed, he woke my mom up and was throwing
up blood and she called an ambulance to take him to the hospital. He didn't
make it there.

Viewing on Friday, and funeral on Saturday. Some of the family that came
for my niece's wedding the week before are coming back for his funeral.
Some can't and that's understandable and I feel bad for them because they
want to.

My dad was a genius, seriously. He worked for 41 years for the government
for the DOD as a nuclear physicist. Mom and dad were able to travel quite a
bit after they both retired, so I'm happy that he got to have some time to
live it up before he got sick.

As a fellow nuclear physicist (in the UK), I send my condolences.
I can't claim to be a genius though - I'm just a manager of said
genii.

He sounds like an amazing man who was able to enjoy every little bit of life
that was allotted to him. Ice Cream cake on Father's day sound like a
nice last meal.

As sad as it is, you will, in time, have more beautiful memories than
painful ones. Purrs and prayers from our house for you and your family.
