Default Miracle cat falls 20 stories

The 16-year-old cat survived a breathtaking 20-story plunge from an
Upper West Side apartment window with barely a scratch.

WTH?

They don't give details, except that the cat was found on a SIDEWALK.

The physics of gravity would seem to make this quite impossible....

They don't mention it falling through a cloth canopy, or anything like
that, as I was expecting.

It's a strange fact that the higher the fall (up to a certain point, I'm
guessing) the greater chance a cat has to live. They do something like
"flying" squirrels do - when they spread their legs out, spread-eagle,
the skin acts like a kind of parachute. This isn't the first such story
I've heard of. Thanks for the link!

I've heard the same thing -- that a cat has a much better chance of
surviving
a third-story fall than a one-story fall. I think it also has
something to do with
the cat having enough time to "right" themselves so that they really
*can*
land on their feet. I saw a kitten jump from way high in a tree once,
and he
looked exactly like you said -- a flying squirrel.

Good grief. Who needs opposable thumbs when you can fly? (((Bast)))
for watching
over her own. Poor kitty.

I live in one of the top floors of a high rise building. I was always
worried
Rusty would fall down and was very careful about opened windows. All
my
windows are screened but I was afraid Rusty would push through the
screens. He loved to bat at the widow when there was bugs outside.
I used to tell him if he broke the window he would fall all the way
down
to the pool and get wet.
Now that he is at RB, I open my windows more freely

Oh, poor G - he looks freaked in that picture. I can't say I blame him!
