My cats do it when it is really hot and they are moving around a lot.
Cats can't really sweat, they have very few sweat glands thus the panting to cool down. Kind of doggy like. I am sure there is plenty of other reasons for them to pant also.... |

THANKS I don't think cats breath out their mouths at all unless they are in real respiratory distress. (or they're outside and have gotten too hot). I think calling your vet is in order. Sherry |

In article ,
enlightened us with... why do kittens breath with mouth opened THANKS I don't think cats breath out their mouths at all unless they are in real respiratory distress. (or they're outside and have gotten too hot). I think calling your vet is in order. Sherry Just my personal experience - all my kittens breathed through their mouths after intense play with much chasing (sprinting and jumping)...but not for very long. Rather like I breath through my mouth after I run a lot. It only lasted a minute or two and only happened after intense play. The behavior ceased as they got older and lazier. I have also heard that the snub-nosed (i.e. Persian) breeds mouth- breath, though I don't know that as a fact. Vet visits never hurt, though. Animals with enlarged hearts or that have lung problems are often short of breath. ------------------------------------------------- ~kaeli~ Why do people who know the least know it the loudest? If that cell phone was up your a$$, maybe you could drive a little better! http://www.ipwebdesign.net/wildAtHeart http://www.ipwebdesign.net/kaelisSpace ------------------------------------------------- |
