I've been using Thunderbird since I got this computer, and it drives me
crazy. Every time I open the program it takes forever downloading
messages, spam and who knows what else before I can even look at an
email or a newsgroup post. The spam does go into a separate folder
where I can delete it, but the time lag is really annoying. If I could
find another free program that supported newsgroups, I'd drop
Thunderbird in a minute.

Joy

Hmmmm, I don't have a problem with lags like that.

Default Another Reason for Indoor Cats

Sorry, not trying to dredge up the age old debate again but I've just
discovered another reason for keeping cats indoors in South Carolina, USA.
Coyotes!

I always thought of coyotes as being a "western" US critter. Apparently
they have migrated:

http://www.thestate.com/2014/09/29/3...d-to.html?rh=1

A rabid coyote bit a person in Okatie, SC on September 29th. They are as
big as, and often mistaken for, German Shepherds. The coyote tested
positive for rabies. The person is undergoing treatment. (Another reason
to keep cats - and dogs - indoors... rabies.)

Until I saw the headline in a [different] local newspaper I had no idea
there were coyotes in South Carolina.

Jill

I've always thought it was sensible to keep cats in, in countries where
there are predators that might eat them, I have said so before many times.
It's an interesting post, my friend Bob in Michigan saw a coyote crossing a
field near his house in broad daylight a couple of years ago. He didn't
think they had them there either.
Boyfie's first "girlfriend kitty" on the group was called Tortie but their
online romance didn't last long - she disappeared. I can't remember who she
belonged to now, she no longer posts, but coyotes were thought to be the
culprit.
I do keep Boyfie in overnight because of foxes. I get them more than most
because they come and check that my chickens are shut up for the night.
Although most foxes will not attack cats, some will, especially big dog
foxes in a bad mood during the mating season and both sexes when they have
big cubs to feed.
Boyfie's accident happened in January, when the boy foxes are after the
girls all day and night, so are a bit crazy, so a fox was first up in court
as the guilty party both by me and my vet.
Found not guilty by forensic evidence.

Mary, I am still running on Windows XP and it warns me all the time about
not being able to view You-tube soon and not being supported etc but it will
be a whole lot of hassle to change. It will mean I'll need a new computer
and whether I can save all I want from the one I have I don't know, and who
will I get to do that, and what if I can't, etc.
So I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes it's just too much bother to
think about..

Back up your computer to an external drive. (People should do that
anyway.) Then you should be able to easily port over everything you
want. Your email client will most likely change with a new computer,
though.
