rescued kitty update

Popping in to post an update of the kitties my girlfriend and I
rescued. Two males that appeared to be litter mates and very close we
were able to adapt together! The silver tabby got to his new home and
started sniffing and sneezing excessively and we worried that it was
the same thing another cat in the group ("Matty") had (because the vet
had not been able to pin down what her problem was then) so we rushed
him off to the vet. He went on antibiotics and the vet said it was
probably brought on by stress. He's fine now and both onwner and onwee
are well and happy.Yay!!!! The absolutely gorgeous smoke female
longhair we had spayed. Oh My, what a sweet, calm, beautiful cat! Has
that great fur that doesn't mat easily and big bright amber eyes.
Well, she found a forever home with this neat wheelchair-bound lady and
her 2 elderly poms. Have been back to visit and everyone seems to get
along together nicely. The lady, Carol, has a huge south-facing
casement window (that pooches out) just covered in plants and
vines...the perfect cat-place, where she can lol in the sun and peer
out of her jungle at the birds and those fat dog-creatures! Wern't
sure how she would handle dogs, but apparently they didn't phase her a
bit.

It looks like the one we call Matty (because of her fur) is going to be
with us a while. Barb and I have been sharing care of her just because
she does take some special care and food and because it's a bugger to
get her meds down her! S-l-o-w-l-y her nose and mouth are healing.
Both still have big sores inside and out, but her breathing is lots
better and she's not blowing those nasty bloody bubbles out her nose,
or spattering blood and mucuse when she sneezes. Ick. After all the
tests and bloodwork Sara, the vet, says it is apparently something that
just is going to take a long, long, long while to heal. She's been
living in that ancient barn all through the cold, Montana winter (and
who knows how long before that) subsisting on whatever she could catch
and with no source of water that we could find. Poor baby. She's what
I call a "round" kitty...with a scot. fold or brit ancestry. Round
face, big round eyes and ear tops (not folded though), cubby body,
shorter tail and nose. Coloring is a little more difficult. Matty is
sort of an interesting...ummm...patchwork...cat since Sara de-felted
her when she was under getting her teeth cleaned.LOL Maybe a dark grey
tiger smoke? I think I see some faint tiger markings but she sort of
looks torti too...? Guess I'll have to wait till she grows out!

I have to give TONS of credit to all those folks who regularly do
this...take in or rescue stray kitties....it's AMAZING!!! To advertise
for and screen prospective owners, then follow up after the adoption.
Medicating. Socializing. Jeeze...too much to say. To take care of
the necessary vet care...Oh My Gosh...do you know how much we spent on
these cats??!! (my hubby would NOT want to know) If it wasn't for
(trumpet rillllll...) Sara Stevens at Alpine Vet in Missoula MT we
could not not have afforded or known to do half of this. She is an
angel! Was behind us 100% when she found out what we were trying to
do. Barb and I both are on pretty limited incomes. And we aren't
done. There's Matty, and there is still the one-eyed male. But right
now we are absolutely broke. Thank goodness the weather has warmed up
and there should be plenty of water (rain) and food out at the barn.
We will rent the trap and get to him as soon as we can.

So glad things are going well! I hope Matty really starts to clear up soon
but at least she sounds better. How horribly uncomfortable she must have
been. Purrs for trapping the one eyed guy.

Thank you so much for all that you did for those poor kitties, you did
