Steve Touchstone had some very interesting
things to say about My weird kids [was An idea for a mass purr day]: Felix and Ava have daily purr/coo sessions. Yes, the bird has been renamed. "He" surprised us this morning, after 20 months of acquaintance, with an egg [she's an only bird]. Guess Ava got tired of being called "he/him" and decided to provide a little visible proof that she's a girl. We'd actually been pretty solidly convinced we had a male dove before that little surprise. :-) I know didn't say you wanted any advice, so feel free to ignore the rest of this post. First off, I don't really know a whole lot about your type of bird, both of mine are cockatiels, but the advice would probably work for Ava. From what I've read and been told, egglaying not really good for the bird health, since they can become eggbound and may need an adjustment to the diet (may need calcium, which they can get from a cuttlebone which you hang from the side of the cage). We offered her one when she first moved in with us, and she completely ignored it. We've heard from other dove owners that softbills generally don't like cuttlebones. -- "The universe is quite robust in design and appears to be doing just fine on its own, incompetent support staff notwithstanding. :-)" - the Dennis formerly known as (evil), MCFL |

I like to receive feedback on my stories, too. Sometimes i get very few and sometimes a lot. Sometimes the responses reply to a peripheral part of the story and ignore the main part. You just never know what is going to strike the reader. As for replying, I don't do much. Partly from lack of time or I am brain dead after a hard day's work or someone else has said exactly what I would say or say something better than I could. But I do read and appreciate the stories. Sometimes I really need the boost of a cute cat story. I will try to do more replying, even if it is just a LOL! Since Amber died, my house is too quiet and I miss the rascal that inspired so many stories. Maybe when I am through grieving, I will find more humor in my household of cats. Maybe my broken heart would benefit from a group purr. (((((CATherine))))) I know how you feel. Even though I've become attached to Tallulah and Hubert, and I'm glad they're here and enjoy their company, sometimes watching them actually just intensifies the grief for my Mikey. Sometimes some of the posts here are terribly hard to read, because they're so reminiscent of the last few months of Mike's life, but I know how important it was to me, at least, to be able to come here and vent and fret and obsess where there are people who understand. Sometimes some of the funny or just incidental stories can be lifesavers, and it's true it's easy to fail to post appreciation for those stories. Sometimes I just feel too dull to post much; I like to read everyone else's stories, but don't feel like I have anything worth saying on a given day. But then I think that enjoying what everyone else writes without contributing much of anything myself is kind of selfish. I really do appreciate the people who start threads and post stories and keep the whole thing going. Okay, I've drifted very, very far from what I had meant to say, and am just rambling now. Maybe I should turn off the computer and go to bed. :-) ------ Krista |
