Default Morning routines

Amber and Tiger are creatures of habit. They have a series of morning
routines that rarely changes. When I get up I tell Amber to wait on the
bed for her hug (she usually sleeps on my bed). I go upstairs (that's
where the living room/kitchen is) and Tiger meets me at the top of the
stairs. After a few chores, I meet Tiger next to his cat tree where he
jumps up on the step stool, waiting for me to pick him up to the first
level. There I use the zoom groom to give him a good brushing to remove
loose hair. Then it's back downstairs to give Amber a long hug while I
tell her what a good girl she is and how beautiful she is. By then
Tiger is usually on the bed waiting for his long hug while I tell him
what a good boy he is and how beautiful he is. Then it's back upstairs
to give them their breakfast. After breakfast Amber retires to her
window seat and Tiger goes downstairs to "crash" under my bed.

I love to hear about the routines between humins and cats. Your's is
certainly that of a good slave.

My morning routine isn't as good. The alarm goes off, Sootie jumps off the
bed, (read jumps off me) and lies on the landing ready to get some fuss
from DH then from me. Then she goes onto the study window (still
upstairs). I go down to make the coffee and bring mine upstairs and go to
fuss her on my way to the bathroom. then I go in to fuss her on my way
back to the bedroom. I get dressed and before I go down.. yes you've
guessed it... I go in to fuss her. Then I go back to check she's still in
the study before I put the alarm on, another fuss, by now she's on he
chair by the desk. As I leave the house I shout good bye. It's this last
bit that makes DH declare I'm mad. Whenever I leave the house I shout
goodbye to her, what's mad about that?

Judith

There is absolutely nothing mad about that! When I leave the house I
always say goodbye to Persia. I also tell her when I'll be back. I
think cats carry little pocket watches hidden in their fur

Nothing at all. Whenever I go anywhere, as I'm going out the door, I shout,
"Goodbye, kitty-loves. I'll see you later."

This is so sweet. Is Mark Edwards giving lessons?

Our morning ritual starts with me lying in bed semi-comatose, trying to
attain the level of consciousness required for sitting up. This is mostly
achieved by listening to the radio - talk shows if something interesting
is on, otherwise, rolling the dial up and down the band looking for
something decent (analog radio). Music on the radio is terrible these
days - totally bland and boring. But there are a couple of "old school"
stations where I can hear something more lively. (When I was young, the
adults complained that our music was cacophanous and loud. I have the
opposite complaint about current music. No self-respecting elevator would
stoop to play it!)

Meanwhile, Licky is usually ensconced in the inside of my knees, snoozing
away. Roxy apparently gets up earlier than we do, and she pops in from time
to time to see if I've gotten vertical yet. Sometimes this is nothing more
than a quick noserub before trotting off. Other times, she gets on top of
me, kneading and purring. I like to think this is affection, but she might
just be trying to speed along the process of getting me out of bed.

The morning feeding is simple - just open one can, split it between two
plates, and put them down. Roxy eats in the kitchen, Licky eats in the
bedroom. I feed them separately so that when Roxy is getting lysine in
her food, Licky won't be sticking his nose in it. I only do that at night,
though. In the morning, I'm just going through the motions so Licky will
know the drill and not get confused. I don't really shut the door all the
way in the morning, so he can come out when he feels like it.

This might make you feel better: when I leave the house in the morning,
Roxy is usually sitting in the front window, which I can see from the
stairwell. If she's not looking at me, I call her or make "kissy" noises,
the universal cat-calling sound. Roxy will look at me through the window,
usually with a slight glare and possibly some ear twitches, as though to
say, "Oh, stop lording it over me that you can go out and I can't." Once
in a while, it's Licky sitting in the window, and he always looks shocked
that I have somehow magically gotten *outside*.

Did I mention that I am outside? Waving and talking and making kissy
sounds at my cats through the window? In full view of the neighbors? You
have nothing on me when it comes to madness.

I always say "goodbye" to Holly and Duffy when I leave the house, and I
greet them as soon as I return. They are usually at the door waiting for
me--they obviously hear my arrival and get to the door before I do--and I
immediately look for them if they are not at the door. It is one of my
great pleasures to find them waiting for me and a worry for the few minutes
it takes me to find them if they have decided to nap instead of heading for
the door.

Lindy (RB) always used to meet me at the door, but Waffles and Pickles can't
be bothered. I usually find them napping, either on my bed or in the living
room.

Sweep (RB) used to be waiting in the hall when we got home. Sophie (RB)
was always on the front bedroom window watching for us. As soon as we
pulled up on the drive you could see her turn and jump off the window
ledge and she would be waiting in the hall by the time I opened the door.
Sootie, well, she ambles down in her own good time, it might be immediate
or ten minutes later.

There is one exception. If I drive somewhere, they never greet me.
However, if I go for a walk, Waffles is always sitting in the dining room
window, and jumps onto the table as soon as I come in.

Boyfies morning routine in the early hours (he isn't allowed on my bed) is
to listen outside my bedroom for my breathing to change in case I woke up
and then insist it's breakfast time.
I actually don't mind because it means his health is good and he has a good
appetite.

Waffles and Pickles have IAMs Weight Control kibble available all the time,
so they don't get breakfast. They also don't seem to care when I get up.
Once I'm up, though, Waffles immediately rushes to the kitchen for treats
(which are actually Friskies), while Pickles gallops into the living room
for her morning skritches and tummy-rub. This routine is basically repeated
at mealtimes and at bedtime. ;-)
