OK, I know it was all my own fault, really.
How many times have I been told not to drink anything at the computer? How many times have I been told to make back-ups frequently? Caliban was just being his normal, bouncy but innocent self. The ultimate stupidity was mine - what in the world made me throw him a tinfoil ball when he was sitting right beside a half-full cup of tea that in turn was sitting right beside my computer? The inevitable happened - when plunging after the ball, Caliban tipped over the cup and my laptop computer was doused in tea. This happened on Saturday morning. Saturday evening, it wouldn't start up at all. I agonized all evening about how to save all the important stuff off the hard drive. I'd backed it up in May or so. On Sunday morning, it seems it had dried out a little, and it started up. I immediately copied everything onto an external hard drive. By Sunday evening, it was almost working as normal. The only thing is, the keys on the left side of the keyboard don't work at all, neither do the number keys. Maybe they'll start working, too, if I wait some more. Or I'll have to buy a separate keyboard. I borrowed my laptop from work while I'm waiting to see if it will start working again. And it wasn't Caliban's fault. -- Marina |

I would have waited days and put the laptop on a (not too) warm oven to be sure everything had dried out. If you take your tea with sugar there might be something dried stuff be stuck under the keyboard which prevents the signal of the keys from being send to the processor. Laptop keybords have to be cleaned (inside) by an expert. Would be expensive. I had the same thing with coffee and a joke which got me on surprise. |

I had the laptop drying under a lamp. I might ask one of the guys at work to look at it... -- Marina |

I once almost destroyed a computer with a full 16-oz (approx 1/2 liter) cup of coke. Luckily, it had no important data on it at the time. Joyce |

Since the girl's are fond of coming to see what I'm doing and sitting down for a snuggle and a visit. But thank goodness your computer started up, again long enough for you to get your important data. =o) Melissa |

I hope you're computer is running better by now (and you've managed to
salvage your keyboard, too!) -- I don't know why we tempt fate like this ;o) Christine "Marina" wrote in message ... OK, I know it was all my own fault, really. I got a new keyboard yesterday. It's not a mobile computer any more. / And still, here I am, drinking tea at the computer again. Hoomins. We never learn, do we? -- Marina, Miranda and Caliban.
