bald spot on belly
My six year old cat, Delilah, has a spot on her belly that appears to
be bald, but has very short hair growth upon closer look. We took her to the vet, and based on the very healthy appearance of her skin under the fur, diagnosed her with "psychogenic alopecia" and told us she was just excessively grooming that area and not to worry. She's at her normal weight and normal activity levels (VERY high!), and strictly indoors. Normally, I would listen to the vet and just move on- he's very adept and knows a great deal about cats, but I'm concerned that it might be something more after doing a web search on hair loss in cats. Should I take her for another opinion or is "psychogenic alopecia" common and something that can be diagnosed from a close look at her belly? Any response much appreciated. Chel and Delilah |
