I'm sorry to hear about your long time friend.

I didn't mean to sound cold, I just got very worried it might have been
our friend Hazel. Purrs for your loss.

I actually wondered this at first, but since she was one of Pat's
friends from way back when she lived in Arizona, I guessed that it
wasn't. Incidentally, I might be mistaken, but I thought we
coincidentally happened to have had two Hazels from Arizona on this
newsgroup - Pam, of course, plus one other.

We hadn't seen one another since I left Arizona, only spoke on the phone
and through emails. She had been living on the Sonora coast near
Hermosillo in Mexico. She was sleeping on the roof of a friend's two-story
house and fell off. Maybe she woke up in the night and was disoriented....

She was 66. Everyone expected her to live to a ripe old age. She was
strong, talented and wise. I hadn't heard from her in a few months and
only found out today about the accident, although it happened on July
7th.... I had never dreamed of Hazel before, but saw her every night last
week, without understanding why.

I spoke with her sister a while ago. She said there was a big gathering in
Hazel's honor last weekend. She had so many friends.... I'm still
digesting this news. It's a huge shock.

It would be a shock. I'm sure you were planning to see her again and
thought there would be lots of time.

Every time I remember my brother, I also think "but there was supposed to be
more time"

Purrs. I know you will miss her.

Jo

I can sympathize, Pat. I'm very sorry for Hazel's sake, that was much
too soon to go. Last week I got a letter from a classmate from grade
school telling me my best friend between second grade and high school
died with no warning from a brain aneurism (SP?) on June 29th. She was
44. Any spare purrs for her very shocked husband and son would be
appreciated. I hadn't seen her in 25 years, as we each went our
separate ways after High School, she to UCLA and I to Oregon, and we
never quite hooked up again. Be smart, everyone. Hook up with a friend
you haven't talked to in a while. You never know how much or how
little time you really have.

Melissa

Lots of purrs and hugs for her family and for you, Melissa,
Polonca and Soncek

Purrs for you and for those your classmate left behind.

I would add to your suggestion, if at all possible, try to be loving
to those you love; at least make up before you part. I remember one
year I got into a nasty fight with my father during a holiday visit.
When I left we still weren't getting along, and we didn't hug goodbye.
I don't remember which of us wouldn't hug, but I do remember the fear
that we'd created a permanent rift or that he would die in some freak
way before I had a chance to hug him again.

We never really talked about it. I'm hoping I will have the strength
to talk to him about it in a loving and non-confrontational way this
week, while he's visiting.

Some time ago after a friend's death, I decided to get in touch with
some old friends with
whom I have lost contact. I called and e-mailed them. But after
awhile, I slacked off again.
I should get back to it. I will be going to a class reunion in the
fall. It will be great to see
old class-mates again. Some of them I've known since 4th grade.
