Default Another step for Molly

It seems that the more assertive and in charge Molly has become with Jake
and Kayla, the more of a love she becomes with us.

After last night I actually envision being a little old lady in a rocking
chair someday, with Molly curled up in my lap.

For those that haven't been here for the whole saga, Molly arrived over
three years ago. An eighteen month old feral calico girl who had not only
lived on her own, but raised her babies on her own as well. She would
barely let us touch her. Picking her up was out of the question. So was
being an indoor only cat.

Last night she followed her recent routine of coming in our room as soon as
we went to bed. This time she jumped up and snuggled close to be. But on
the side away from the edge of the bed so I could get up without moving her.
She has learned I don't stay put all night. Only our second cat ever to
prefer sleeping next to me over sleeping by Charlie.

So I thought when I got up to get a drink of water and take my pills, 'why
not?'

I slid my hand under her gently and between her front legs and rolled her
over to her back. And for the first time ever rubbed her tummy. Almost
cried while I did it too.

Awww. That is so sweet. It makes me think of the time it has taken Shadow to
be more trusting, he's come indoors several times recently. One day he'll be
a proper owner and worth the wait.

That is wonderful.

I know how rewarding each step is with a feral cat. I've felt the same way
with each new step with Samwise.

It is such a special moment when a very timid or ex-feral cat finally trusts
enough to allow such intimacy. It can and often does take years. When it
happens it often brings tears, IME experience, anyway. The first time
Boyfriend jumped into my lap when I was sitting quietly and settled down for
a few minutes had my eyes brimming.
Now, I cannot lay on the sofa to watch TV without him jumping up, kneading
me furiously for a minute or two then settling down on my chest gazing
lovingly into my eyes at regular intervals ;-)
Sounds like Molly is going down this route too - congrats.
All good things come to s/he who waits..
